Where you’ll be

Visole, Slovenska Bistrica, Slovenia

The region between the Pohorje mountains and the Haloze hills extends to the territory of the Municipality of Slovenska Bistrica.

Slovenska Bistrica is a great place to learn about history, while it can also serve as a starting point for getting acquainted with the municipality stretching from Pohorje all the way to the hillsides of Dravinjske gorice. The rich and interesting cultural heritage of this area tells countless stories about the creativity of its people, their activities, progress, and the events that have shaped the cultural landscape of this region through time. Numerous archaeological findings are evidence that this area was settled very early. The landscape is dotted with still preserved castles and mansions, along with numerous churches and other religious sites. Many cultural monuments from more recent periods have been preserved as well, while ethnographic sites and numerous permanent collections tell stories about the work and life of the people of this area.

The town was built on the intersection of roads between present-day Maribor, Celje and Ptuj, on the site of an old Roman settlement Civitas Negotiana. A town wall was erected around the year 1300 and later fortified with four corner towers. Today it is a modern Slovenian town, which has successfully developed in various fields during the last decades. It is the administrative and industrial center of the south-eastern part of Pohorje.

The south eastern part of Pohorje (which is part of the Slovenska Bistrica municipality) is very geographically diverse. The most prominent of its rolling hilltops are Rogla, Žigartov vrh and Veliki vrh. The hillsides are interspered with numerous streams. Due to the non-permeable nature of the rock, most of the rainfall stays on the surface and the rushing streams form steep gorges. Pohorje is also famous for its peat fens with numerous lakes (such as the Črno jezero Lake) and the extensive man-made glades.

The region iot is well know about the wine. You have to visit winieris winemaking (natural winemaking farm Zorjan, Frešer, …). Near it is also Črno jezero on Pohorje. It was was created artificially more than 130 years ago by a dam. Today it is a natural monument and it forms a natural reserve together with its surroundings and the typical wetland fauna. There is a new wooden trail leading from Osankarica to the lake.It is an excellent place for a variety of birds.

The next suggested trip would be the Bistrica gorge. Pohorje is full of streams, some of which have created deep gorges such as the Bistrica gorge, which was created by the Bistrica stream and is a geomorphological natural monument. The source of the Bistrica stream is in the village of Bojtina, from where it flows downhill forming numerous rapids and waterfalls. An interesting hiking and educational trail leads through the gorge (Roman quarry, Šum waterfall, Štampohar mill, various rock-types, rare plants...), providing hikers with the opportunity to encounter various rock-types and rare plant species. A visit to the gorge is interesting regardless of the season.

Also s variety of stone can be found there: a special kind of granite, gneiss and further downstream marble (where there was a quarry in Roman times), amphibolite, serpentine, eclogite and some others. There is a highly interesting and educational trail leading through the gorge; it is very attractive beacuse of its rewarding views, the rich variety stone and examples of rare plants.

A couple of kilometers outside of Oplotnica is the quarry of Cezlak. A grayish green rock, which proved to be very suitable for construction purposes, was found here towards the end of the 19th century. It was given the name čizlakit. This is the only deposit of this indigenous rock in Slovenia. The quarry also holds various exhibitions.

My name is Alenka and I am the owner and host of Panorama Glamping Hut - Romantic Nest. I have met a lot of great people from all over the world while working in tourism.
Since I get a lot of reservations every day, I share my work with my partner agency AlpeAdriaBooker, so I can offer a better service to all my guests. They are a professional property management company helping me every day to manage my reservations. This local agency from Brežice - Slovenia, acts as a connection point, by both maximising the potential for the renters (myself) and carrying for guests along every step of the way.
That way the renters and myself have more time to be at guests disposal in person.
You will be meeting me at the property, I will give you the keys, while my partners from the agency communicate with my guests online. If you call our contact number you will reach their reservation department. They will help you with everything you might need. You don't have to worry, they will keep me informed about your arrival and needs, and I will be waiting for you at the accommodation to welcome you for a great start of your holidays!
