The Texas hill country starts in the scenic Helotes Creek valley with our Country Cabin. Welcome to our private, cozy cabin featuring a (truly) fully-equipped kitchen, two porches, and shared pool space! Original art, mid-century furniture, and an eclectic library are some of the touches. Our guests enjoy a bottle of our wine from grapes grown outside your door, homemade pancake mix and local fresh eggs in the 'fridge!
No Additional Host Fees - price includes cleaning and state hotel tax.
The Country Vineyard Cabin is on a private hill top property surrounded by the natural beauty of our vineyard, orchard, and the Texas Hill Country opening up before you.
Cyclists and bikers, joggers, walkers, nature-lovers, music-lovers, antiquers, BBQ fans, and sunset seekers will find happiness here!
Mid-century modern furnishings, comfortable bed, all linens, fully equipped self-catering kitchen, with private front porch and back dining deck provided to make you feel at home.
We have neighbors, but you'll never see their houses. Instead the peaceful, dark night skies are filled with stars, and in the early summer - fireflies!
Inside, the cabin's warm wood walls and floors make for a cozy retreat.
Enjoy the entire 1-bedroom guest Cabin's fully-equipped kitchen, full bath with tub and shower, vineyard, orchard, and gardens, all within easy access to the Texas Hill County and San Antonio. Plus you'll have access to access to the shared swimming pool and bocce court. An iron firepit is available for your use, upon request.
The property is a completely enclosed acre for your pets to enjoy, too, and is completed by our 1957 mid-mod "Town" home located on the property, but far enough away for you to feel secluded - see photos.
Guests will have full access of the entire cabin and its amenities. There is a shared swimming pool and bocce court on the property, as well as vineyard and gardens. An iron firepit can be relocated for your private use, upon request. Property is enclosed and accessed by private gate. Upon arrival you'll get use of your set of the house keys and a gate remote control.
The cabin also includes a computer with Internet access, wireless Internet for your devices, DVD player, CD/radio, portable record player, cable television, and a Roku access to Netflix and other channels.
Interaction with guests
We do enjoy meeting our guests at some point during their stay, but the amount of interaction depends entirely on our guests and their wants.
We live in the second home located on the property, with the shared swimming pool and bocce court adjacent. We are always made available to our guests by phone, social media, email, and in person when requested.
Other things to note
At the end of April / early May the local town hosts its annual Cornyval event with small town parades, carnival, and one of the best small rodeos in the nation.
On any first Saturday of the month, you'll find Helotes Market Days, with themed weekends ranging from chili cookoffs to classic cars. Arts, crafts, and locally made products abound!
Around here, October is Willie Nelson month! Check out the website for John T. Floore Country Store to see who else might be playing.
Stay, kick back and relax, or use the guest cabin as your home base to the rest of the Texas Hill Country. A concierge kit sits next to the computer where we share information about our favorite hikes and small-town places like nearby Boerne, Comfort, Bandera; which scenic routes and maps to take you to Fredericksburg, Leakey, or Kerrville; where to find Lost Maples and Utopia - and ask us about our favorite Chicken Fried Steak in each town!

We expect to treat you as our guest! We would like to make your stay as happy and enjoyable as possible. There are a few simple expectations that we request of you:
Maximum 2 Adults only. Our cabin is not to accommodate those under 21 years of age. And, the only additional guests we permit (at no additional fee) are your socialized, house-broken pets.
Please do not leave unsupervised pets in the cabin, unless crated/kennelled. Pets are not allowed in the pool. Garden towels are available if your pet gets dirty, muddy, visits the fish pond, etc. Please ask if needed.
Our rescue pooch, Vienna, lives on the property. She is a Vizsla mix who loves to play, and she will want to meet you! We will keep her away if you request we do so.
Please respect our no indoor smoking rule. Outdoor ashtrays may be provided upon request, but we ask that you please do not smoke anywhere indoors or near open windows and doors to the cabin.
We are in a rural setting and have an aerobic treatment plant rather then municipal sewage. This is not a septic system. We ask that nothing other than waste and toilet paper be flushed. Please no feminine products, condoms, wipes, or other items labeled as "flushable" be flushed.
There is no lifeguard on duty at the pool. No diving is allowed. Please do not bring any glasses or breakable items to the pool deck or in the pool. Your guest cabin will have plastic drinkware, and plenty of towels for your use. We encourage you to enjoy the pool and bocce court; please note that both areas are shared with our home. Pool hours are 9AM to sunset.
Finally, please refrain from picking grapes, produce, or flowers from our vineyard and gardens. We try to live off the grocery grid as much as possible and will gladly share when asked, and we'll leave a bottle of our house wine for you!
Let us know what we can do to make your stay wonderful! We want to help you have a great time, and we're so happy that you've chosen our cabin for your stay!
This is a shared account for Sue and Mark, a couple married for over 30 years. We share your love of travel, and have restored our property - house and cabin - to highlight our love of gardening, art & architecture, relaxing, winemaking, and the amazing Texas Hill Country.
Our style is to be open to wonderful experiences, and meet as many people as we can along the way. Mark has taught AP Design and Art History; he's traveled with hundreds of students, and we've also taken many, many trips on our own.
A few of our favorite trip highlights: we've spent nights on Capri, overnight trains from Paris to Florence, ferry from Brindisi to Patras, bullet train from Hakone to Kyoto, set on fire during a shave at a Turkish bath, blackened our teeth on a squid dish in San Barnaba, lost at bocce miserably in Barbarino Val d'Elsa, and visited ancient sites in Rome more times than we've seen the Alamo here at home.
Recently we were super excited to have visited the South Pacific and we fell in love with New Zealand, Australia, and Fiji!
Next up, we want to explore more of America! Sue is especially excited to show off "her" mountain to Mark with a visit to her hometown of Tacoma and Mount Ranier. Mark's excited to see Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon. We are considering training to hike the Appalachian Trail soon!
