Choosing a place to stay when away from home is a big deal. Been there, done than - a lot. Let me help you with my brand new, fully equipped and centrally-located place. Being nested in the treetops of the longest Sarajevo promenade, it is also incredibly peaceful and refreshing. Just what one needs to start the day on a good foot (or a jog) and to recharge after wandering this amazing city and its as amazing surroundings. Take a look, send a note. Hope we meet here soon!

Sarajevo, Federacija Bosne i Hercegovine, Bosnia & Herzegovina

The Marijin Dvor (Maria's Palace) neighborhood is considered the heart of modern Sarajevo. It homes the city's most important administrative (national parliament and national government, the United Nations, majority of embassies), commercial (UNITIC business center, Sarajevo City Center, Alta shopping center, hotel Holiday..) and cultural (National Museum, Historical Museum, Magribija mosque, Ars Aevi Museum of Contemporary Art, St. Joseph's Church..) buildings. But the story of Marijin Dvor is really the story of one European city’s transformation throughout the centuries. It is here that you can encounter fragments of nearly every major period of Sarajevo and BiH history.

There are several powerful stories associated with this neighborhood. It all started with a love story of an architect for his Maria, who literally built a palace for her (not the Taj Mahal, but still!). The Vrbanja Bridge tells the two most powerful stories from the recent Sarajevo and BiH past - about Suada and Olga, the first civilian victims in Sarajevo, and about Bosko and Admira, "Sarajevo's Romeo and Juliet". I like to think that although tragic, these two are also stories about love and human connection.

Within the neighborhood's bustling midst is the Wilson's Promenade, a green oasis of over 480 linden and chestnut trees planted at the beginning of the 20th century. It is named after Thomas Woodrow Wilson, the US President whose declaration of war on the Central Powers in 1917 was a major turning point in the World War I. We just call it The Vils (capital T intended).

It is an important street for the city. During the workdays it functions as "normal" street for connecting the city west-east (one-way). But, after 5 pm and throughout weekend and holidays, it gets closed for traffic and transforms into the city's largest outdoor recreational area, offering something for all ages and all moods. Residents and visitors alike are found here throughout the year - jogging, working out on exercise equipment, cycling... or just strolling under the amazing canopy and enjoying some of the most popular city's cafes and restaurants later on, e.g. Coffee Station, Tito's, and Aquarius Vils.

Living and working here has enriched my life with great stories, (some of) which I could share over a cup of coffee. There must be a great story awaiting you somewhere at or around this promenade too ;)
