Fig Tree Barn is a charming renovated stone barn located in a small rural hamlet surrounded by glorious Devon countryside within Dartmoor National Park. Just a few miles north of the historic towns of Buckfastleigh and Ashburton.

Fig Tree Barn provides accommodation for upto five guests in a barn conversion that has been lovingly renovated with charm and character in abundance. With plenty of retained character features including exposed original beams and traditional stable doors. Enhanced with a stylish blend of contemporary comforts and period furniture.

Entering the property from your own private parking space leads to the enclosed courtyard.
On the ground floor there is the open plan farmhouse style kitchen, complete with dishwasher, tall standing fridge/freezer, electric oven, hob, extractor fan, microwave, toaster, coffee machine and breakfast table.
Double doors open out onto the lovely secluded courtyard with outdoor seating, ideal for relaxed breakfasts, evening drinks and alfresco meals.

The comfortable sitting room is light and airy with access to both the front courtyard as well as opening out onto the rear lawned garden. The sitting room has 2 sofas, occasional tables, television and a dining table.
 
The bathroom has a large walk-in shower, toilet, washbasin and vanity unit.
Also on the ground floor is a further double bedroom with a double bed, storage and hanging space together with a stable door opening out onto the front courtyard.
 
A staircase leads up to a further two good sized bedrooms. One being the Master Bedroom with a king size bed and the other with twin beds. Both with built in hanging and storage space. This floor has a loft like feel with typical barn features of triangular roofs and exposed beams.

Central heating ensures whatever the weather the barn remains warm and cosy.
 
We have a large attached outbuilding providing a spacious utility and boot room. Where there are laundry facilities with separate tumble dryer, racks for boots and further drying area together with plenty of storage space for bikes, canoes, paddle and surfboards and any other guests sports equipment.

Outside
The barn benefits from its own private gated entrance with parking space. This leads through to the barn’s frontage and an attractive private courtyard. This outdoor seating and dining area is an ideal spot to plan your day ahead over a morning coffee and for alfresco meals, as it is benefits from direct access from the kitchen.
 
The good sized private south facing garden is enclosed by high hedges and mostly laid to lawn. The hedges offer excellent privacy and with plenty of outdoor garden furniture makes it ideal for alfresco dining, sunbathing and simply relaxing.
 
A covered alcove houses the outdoor cooking area with a large quality gas BBQ and there is also a movable cast iron fire bowl.

Fig Tree Barn enjoys an enviable countryside location in a small rural hamlet of pretty cottages, quiet country lanes and decorative hedgerows.

The hamlet nestles in a valley surrounded by a patchwork of rolling fields of sheep and cattle, so typical of Devon’s fabulous countryside.
The river Mardle meanders through the hamlet and close to the barn in a deep granite gorge, although there are some paddle spots & even a simple river beach front, ideal as a picnic spot. The historic stone bridge river crossings are a popular feature.

Fig Tree Barn provides the ideal base from which to explore the whole region. From the wild open moorland with it’s rugged granite outcrops, to the stunning Devon countryside. Together with the impressive South Devon coastline with its popular sandy beaches, coastal towns and boating facilities.
 
Fig Tree Barn is perfectly situated for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits and nature. The location offers fabulous opportunities for walking, pony trekking, biking, canoeing, swimming, sightseeing or just simply relaxing.
 
The local area has numerous beauty spots within a short distance and the sandy beaches of the renowned South Devon coastline are within easy reach.

Within a 10 minute walk of the barn through the country lanes is a traditional village pub and about a 20 minute walk away is a community run shop and tearoom. Plus another newly refurbished village pub.
 
The local towns of Ashburton, Buckfastleigh and Totnes provide a wide array of excellent independent shops, artisan food, pubs and great places to eat.

We are just a 15 minutes drive from nationally acclaimed Riverford Organics and their Field Kitchen restaurant.

The barm being situated on the south side of Dartmoor National Park and just 20 miles from the South Devon coastline, means there’s a heap of things to get up to, both on land or out beside the sea. The list of things to do is endless.

Fig Tree Barn is perfectly situated for those who enjoy exploring the great outdoors. The location offers fabulous opportunities for outdoor pursuits, nature, walking, pony trekking, biking, canoeing, swimming, sightseeing or just simply relaxing.

Our unique insider knowledge can recommend a wide range of activities and places to visit that we consider take in the very best that Dartmoor and South Devon has to offer.

We are happy to share our very own recommendations of ‘5 favourite things’. Whether it be places to eat out, local shops, Dartmoor activities, the coastline, days out, moorland walks, beaches or pubs.

We are right beside two important routes. For walkers the two moors way and the high moor link for cyclists. In addition whose who enjoy walking the south west costal path is within easy reach.

We are just a few minutes away from Buckfast Abbey, The South Devon Steam Railway and the Otter sanctuary in nearby Buckfastleigh. We also recommend the independent shops of Ashburton.
