Guests say there are excellent options for dining out.
Situated in historic Amador County, renown for gold mining and rich, fertile soil that grows fantastic wine grapes, you will be just minutes away from some of the best small wineries in California. Bethany's Home Sweet Haunted Home is the heart of Jackson and all of the amazing destinations in Amador and Calaveras Counties. If you do not want to explore, you can relax in the library, enjoy a meal in the large eat-in kitchen, play board games, or watch the Smart TV, there is so much to do.

The space
Dating back to the late 1870s, the house is a Folk Victorian with charm in spades, Most of the furniture has been picked to add to the historic charm of the house. There are plenty of modern conveniences as well. The large eat-in kitchen is in the basement, where in the winter and spring you can often hear the rushing water from the creek that runs at the base of the back of the house. I continue to make improvements and changes to the house, and next time you visit; you are likely to find new items procured to add to the ambience of this house which feels more like a living thing and not just a plain house. The house is haunted, but they have yet to disturb anyone who isn't interested in communicating with them, so if you are scared- don't worry, they promise to be nice (just ask them to leave you alone). NOTE: The house is decorated for all holidays, but Halloween decor goes up after Labor Day, and then it switches to Christmas in Early November. But we reserve the right to change the decor at any time. If you have any questions- just ask!

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire ground floor, the kitchen and the bathroom below but the unfinished part of the basement is locked for safety. There is also another basement apartment which the side yard with the patio is reserved for. These doors are locked from both sides (one at the base of the stairs and in the kitchen).

Other things to note
There are two units, this (the main unit) and a basement apartment with its own entrance and the side yard. There are two interior doors between the units, both are locked from both sides.

The house is haunted but mostly you will just hear occasional bangs or stomps or other non-threatening activity. Sometimes a light or appliance won't work one day, and it will work the next. Basically, we have an annoyance who has a bit of a trickster side, but as long as you respect the house and me, they are happy to have guests and are actually very welcoming.

Neighbourhood highlights

Sitting on Main Street, Bethany's is surrounded by historic homes built in the late 1800s and early 1900s. We are two blocks from the Pioneer Cemetery and the Amador County Museum, and only the second house from the business part of Main Street. This means you are walking distance to all the great restaurants, antique stores, and shops that give Old Town Jackson all its charm. The area is known for being haunted, so we are not special in that, we are just special in the love for the house and the area.

My work: research
I work a normal 9-5 and when I am not there you can often find me working on one of my historic homes. I also run a dog rescue where I foster special needs dogs. I keep myself busy and definitely have a passion for my homes. I work all the time unless I am traveling (I travel a lot alone and have been to 22 countries -lived in 3- and 26 states). I love history, art, true crime and a good patio. I read a lot of books, if you have a suggestion for me, pass it my way! I admit to being the person who makes their bed everyday (even on vacation), but I prefer easy-going people. I want to make the world a better place and hope to spread cheer! Hope to get to meet more amazing people on my travels and hosting as well.
