In 2004 we disassembled out old carriage barn, placed the beautiful frame and woodwork on a new foundation, and surrounded it with a modern, comfortable and energy efficient shell. The result was this lovely in-law style apartment.

The space

Our barn is an original carriage barn on our property that we used to create this lovely in-law apartment in 2004. It features the original hand hewn post and beam frame, antique wide board flooring and a dramatic open living space. It has modern amenities including radiant heat, AC, and a private entrance.

There is a private bedroom and bath with a double bed on the main floor. There is also a beautiful loft space on the second floor with a queen bed. In the large bathroom, there is a washer/drier with complete laundry supplies.

There is a full kitchen that is exceptionally well equipped including a microwave, coffee maker with k-cups, full place settings and flatware, a complete collection of cookware and accessories, and a broad array of kitchen essentials like olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, basic spices, butter, catsup, mustards, half and half, eggs, jam, and breakfast bread. There is also an exterior gas grill year around and outdoor furniture in the summer months.

We have a large private yard with outdoor space for warm summer evenings. There are 2 acres of lawns and gardens with additional acres of walking trails and woods. There is a large playing field that is great for games like soccer, frisbee, or flying a kite.

We have lived here for 21 years. We are happy to share information about local activities, restaurants, and attractions. We are available to guests because we work from home. We rapidly respond to email or text messages.

Shelburne is 3 miles north. Shelburne Museum is nearby as well as the Shelburne Vinyard, Fiddlehead Brewing, and numerous great restaurants. Downtown Burlington is 11 miles north.

Local hiking is available at Mount Philo and Pease Mountain. Lake Champlain, Charlotte beach, and the Charlotte Ferry are all within a few miles by bike or car. Public transportation is 2.5 miles north in Shelburne.

Sugarbush and Mad River Glen Ski areas are about 50 minutes away.

Chris was communicative and very friendly, and the Barn was a great, relaxing place to stay. There were lots of nice little touches waiting for us that made the stay easy and smooth -- a Keurig and milk in the fridge is a great thing to wake up to -- and the space indoors and outside (hi, fire pit!) made me wish we had more time in the weekend.

Chris and Ginny's place was everything we had hoped for. They are kind and helpful hosts and their property and neighborhood are so lovely. The carriage barn was exactly as pictured and described -- full of charm and perfectly equipped for need and comfort. Our trip's highlights included meals at Folino's/Fiddlehead and Penny Cluse Cafe, a visit to Shelburne Farms, a stroll along Church St., a hike at Pease Mountain and a picnic the beach in Charlotte. But nothing topped relaxing in the barn, building a fire on a fall night and, of course, eating Ginny'a famous cookies. We are already wishing we could come back.

This place is a gem! Supper cozy. Queen temperpedic bed and pillows which is great (I have lower back issues). Fully equip kitchen (coffee, milk, filtered water, yummy Carmel chocolates). Beautiful back yard and gorgeous garden. Peaceful, (URL HIDDEN) noise. The hosts are super sweet and friendly ( and if you’re lucky you’ll get some AMAZING coconut, ginger chocolate chip cookies). I kinda feel bad saying that cuz I don’t know how often she bakes (but it’s good!). We are definitely considering coming back in the winter for some snow shoeing. Feel like we made the perfect choice for our three night stay.

The Carriage Barn Apartment was just what we were looking for. It's in a great location close to everything, but in a country setting. It is spacious and very well stocked with anything you may need. Chris and Ginny were very nice and helpful. The personal touch of fresh cut flowers and delicious fresh baked cookies were an added plus!

Chris' place is remarkable. The Airbnb itself is stunning as well as the property around it. Chris goes out of his way to make you feel at home when you arrive. Whether you're looking to cozy up in a beautiful apartment for the weekend or use the property as a home base while you adventure around Vermont for a few days, it is perfect. (The location is also conducive to beautiful running routes right out the front door!)

Chris's place is beautiful, inside and out. There were so many thoughtful touches, down to gorgeous, fresh cut dahlias. Great proximity to the awesome Shelburne museum and easy distances to Burlington, Waterbury, and Stowe. I would definitely book here again.

Chris and Ginny's hospitality made us feel right at home. And the cozy barn made us feel so welcome. We loved the area and Chris and Ginny were ready with suggestions of places to go when asked. We look forward to coming back. And cookies.....yes they are everything everyone is raving about! So delicious! So much to do we'll just have to come back again. You'll enjoy this unique experience in their lovely little red barn.
