Medan, Île-de-France, France

Médan, a village with a strong artistic tradition:
- In the 16th century, the hunting lodge, which would later become the castle, was frequented by Ronsard and the poets of the Pléiade (Du Bellay, Baïf, etc.) who came to hunt and write poems and epigrams.
- Later in 1878, it was Emile Zola who, seduced by the charm of the place, acquired a small house which he called a "rabbit hut" which grew with the author's literary success. Rougon Macquart.
- Closer to us, in 1924, the Nobel Prize for Literature, Maurice Maeterlinck moved to the castle and created some of his works there.
During your walks, you can discover the 3 historical monuments:
- The castle (late 15th century) and its terrace (labeled by the Ministry of Culture and Communication "Maison des Illustres"),
- The Saint Germain church (17th century),
- The Emile Zola house, an essential stopover on the "Route des Maisons d'Ecrivains in Ile-de-France and Normandy".
In the early 1930s, a sports complex with an outdoor swimming pool was created on the banks of the Seine on the Ile du Platais. Closed since summer 2004.
