My authentic circa-1850 house, located In the "America's Coolest Small City" (Frommer's, 2008), Port Jervis, NY., has a country feel, but is convenient to transportation, shops, and activities, like biking, hiking, skiing, swimming, and taking beautiful photos.

The space
My big old (1850) house is located in town, but when you're in the backyard, it's like country. The airbnb apartment on the second floor is fully furnished--master bedroom sleeps 2 on a queen-size bed, living room futon sleeps 2 small or one large person. If there are 3 separate guests, there is small bedroom with a comfortable twin-sized bed.. Will accept up to 4 guests at a time--(for each guest after 2, there is a $20.00 extra fee) .
*Infants and older children are welcome. PLEASE, NO TODDLERS OR SMALL CHILDREN-the apartment is not safe for them.
There's a full kitchen, a dining room/office, and a living room area. Kitchen is equipped with coffee-maker, dishes, flatware, some cooking utensils, stove, etc....The bathroom has a large tub/shower.
The view from the kitchen and dining room windows is of my huge back yard, carriage house, and the Neversink River, which flows into the Delaware 1/2 mile downstream.
You can walk to the train or bus to NYC (80 miles southeast), or take a taxi. I will be glad to pick you up if you arrive by train or bus (arrange for your arrival time, of course) from NYC.

Location

Port Jervis, New York, United States

You can shop and sightsee in three states, since Port Jervis is located on the border of New York (Orange County); New Jersey (Sussex County) has no tax on clothing--there's a great TJ Maxx just over the border in the Montague NJ Shoprite mall / low-cost gas for your car (and you don't have to pump it yourself!) is located 5 minutes from the house); and Pennsylvania (Pike County)--Milford, 14 min. by car, is charming, with art galleries, historic buildings, and boutiques, art galleries, restaurants, Gifford Pinchot estate (Grey Towers). There are ski areas in all three states, kayaking/canoeing/rafting on the Delaware in warm weather (rentals near my home), a local public beach on the Delaware; . Also near my home-stand on "Tri-States" rock in 3 states at once, lots of biking and hiking, river access, amazing scenery from "Point Peter" above the city in Watershed Park; visit UpFront Art Gallery, and PJ's many antique and coffee shops, a micro-brewery with great food, and the old Erie Hotel that features music on weekends.
20 minutes northwest, Kadampa Buddhist Center--an astonishing golden temple in the woods, holds Meditations for World Peace on Sunday mornings at 11:00am, open to the public (great gift shop, too). High Point NJ State Park and Monument (the highest point in NJ) is 4-miles south-in summer, swim in Lake Marcia, hike; in winter, cross-country ski / snow-shoe (they give lessons / rent equipment). So much to do in the Tri-States area!...
There are brochures and maps about the many local attractions on the living-room bookcase. Restaurant menus (take-out, delivery or eat out) reside in the "House Rules" binder.
New York City is only 80 miles SE of Port Jervis--there are trains, buses; drive to PJ, or rent a car after you arrive.

I'm an artist, poet, author, ordained Interfaith Minister, and Meditation teacher. I've enjoyed meeting guests from all over the world by renting my huge, light, fully furnished 2-bedroom upstairs apartment through airbnb. As a host, I am warm, friendly, and very helpful. My art studio is open for anyone who would like to work there, or to learn about the fine art of collage. I can teach one-on-one (or two) how to meditate sessions, if desired. I leave my guests to do their own thing if that's their wish. It's my belief the more we learn about others, the more we find we are fundamentally the same. One of my favorite quotes is: "Never give up. And never, under any circumstances, no matter what--NEVER face the facts!" (Ruth Gordon). Hoping to travel this year -- a road trip across the U.S.--Europe (Paris/Amsterdam/Spain/Italy/Greece, if we are ever allowed to travel to Europe again). I am an ex considerate guest: neat, organized, and thoughtful of hosts' rules. I follow a vegan diet because I love and honor all beings, not just human ones. My recent published books include two poetry chapbooks: "Poems from a Previous Self" and "More Poems from My Previous self" and an "Art & Spirit" book, "52 Messages from my Creative Channel", showing 52 of my fine-art collages with personal thoughts on how to tap your own creative channel. During your stay
I live downstairs and, most of the time, will be available for any questions or information guests may have. House Rules and carry-in/take out menus are contained in the "Welcome" loose-leaf binder in the apartment. There are brochures about the many area attractions on the bookcase in the living room.
I teach personal hour-long "intro to meditation class" (first session free for guests-please set up time and day when you make your reservation). also offer one free collage or vision board workshop --this takes 3 or 4 hours. Both will begin again after COVID .
Please ask me for anything you need while you're visiting. I am very accessible and quite friendly.
