Cape May Hideaway is close to the beach and faces a wide open expanse of one of the island's only two nature preserves. Enjoy our family-friendly home with a large wrap around porch, an upper deck with a outstanding views.

The space

Discover Cape May's best kept secret: the secluded and isolated community of Poverty Beach. No hotels, shops or restaurants, just two quiet roads of single family homes and townhouses facing the sea at the northern-most edge of the island. While just a quick bike ride into town, our townhouse is close to the beach and faces a wide open expanse of one of the island's only two nature preserves. Family-friendly, with a large wrap around porch and an upper deck with a view of the ocean, the home (half of a twin duplex) is quiet, serene, spacious and beautiful.

Upstairs, enjoy the famous Cape May breezes wafting in through the screened-in windows of the three-and-half bedrooms (comfortably sleeping seven adults -- or more if they're child-sized!). Two full baths upstairs and a half bathroom on the ground floor ensure easy living for even the larges families (and there is central air conditioning for those rare days when the Cape May breezes are still and the sun is blazing).

The ground floor features a fully equipped modern kitchen with an adjoining dining room where the world's most beautiful sunsets can be admired from the large dinner table (seating ten). The family room at the rear of the house has a wide screen TV and broad, sliding glass doors that open out onto the expansive back deck with another outdoor eating table and chairs (seats six). Wooden steps lead to an enclosed outdoor shower and a lush back yard. The beach, which can be reached by a neighborhood-only walking path (several doors down from the house) is the last beach in Cape May before the protected 352-acre site owned by the United States Coast Guard. Because of its remoteness and limited access, it feels like a private beach (though, it does have lifeguards) and is, by most estimations, the least crowded beach on the entire island.

So if it's peace, quiet and gorgeous sunsets you're looking for -- and only a five-minute bike ride into town -- Poverty Beach, Cape May's best-kept secret, may be the place for you!

Guests enjoy access to a quiet, family friendly beach located minutes from restaurants, the boardwalk and other beach-side entertainment.

The neighborhood includes long-time residents who are friendly and helpful. Homes are lovingly maintained with gardens, sidewalks and abundant parking.

Our stay in Ellen's home was great. We were completely comfortable in this immaculate home. We enjoyed the wraparound porch and the upstairs deck. The location is perfect, just 2 blocks from the beach backing up to undeveloped space. We had all the amenities needed to make our stay pleasant. The house is big and airy with lots of cross ventilation. You will need to bring bed linen and towels. We will certainly rent this listing again.

Hello, My husband and I enjoyed our stay Immensely at Ellen's home. It is just as described but even better. Peaceful is an understatement. We brought our dogs and they loved it too. We had some family members stay for 1-2 nights with us and it was the perfect house for a family gathering. Check in and check out we're a breeze. Ellen was so kind to let us check in early and even offered herself to have us check out later without us asking. Ellen was so easy to contact if needed. We did not have any problems at the house at all so we did not have to contact her much. The house was Very Clean and had all the necessities. Great living room for families to gather and talk. Beautiful sky views at nighttime of the stars. Beautiful sounds of the ocean at night on the bottom and top deck. Just a wonderful place to rent. And a perfect home for a dog if you are traveling with your animal children. The backyard is perfect for your dog to play ball/fetch. We will definitely be requesting Ellen's home again. Safe travels everyone and God Bless!!

Great hospitality in the quiet north end of Cape May. Close enough to the town to be engaged, but far enough away to have privacy. Highly recommended!

When you want a whole family in one house in Cape May, this is an excellent choice. Close to Poverty Beach, a half hour walk to the city walk area of Cape May, and in a quiet neighborhood, it was perfect for our weekend visit. Our puppy loved taking a nap on the wrap around porch as much as we loved reading and having our morning coffee there. Our host was very responsive to any of our communications.

For starters unless you do a full week rental linens are not provided. So there are pillows and blankets but no sheets or towels. Just putting that right out front. The location is great and literally only about two blocks from the beach just remember you need to get beach tags if you plan to head out for the day to the beach. There is a fence in the back however it's only appears on three sides of the yard so if you bring a pet or have a child out back they will be able to get out. Well the house and decor are slightly dated, it's very quaint and the artwork and pillows really make you feel like you're at home. Overall a very enjoyable experience.

Perfect location to enjoy the beach during the day and then a quick drive or bike ride into town. Poverty Beach is beautiful. House is well equipped to prepare inside meals and BBQ. Wake up to birds singing and At night you can even hear the waves crashing from the back deck. You should bring your toiletries, beach towels, paper towels and toilet paper. Plenty of beach chairs for use and there is an outdoor shower for rinse off.

Exactly what our family needed!! We were traveling with 6 adults, 2 babies and 2 dogs and wanted something close to the beach and comfortable for our group. The walk to the beach was under 5 minutes at a nice & quiet part of cape may. The walk to get the trolley is about 7 mins if you want to go to the 'mall'. The living room was huge for all to hang in. The deck was great for meals. Ellen had all the essentials available for us, which made packing a little simpler (we had enough with 2 babies lol). Ellen was great about getting back to us very quickly with any issues we may have had. The only MINOR issue was that the yard is fenced but not enclosed so bring a yard stake or long leash for your pup :) We will definitely look to stay here again next summer. THANKS ELLEN!!!
