An earth building uniquely located right next to the Abel Tasman National Park. The location is one of epic views, endless skys, everchanging seascapes, green forested mountains and total privacy.

Soak up the unforgettable views of Abel tasman, Golden Bay, Farewell Spit and beyond.

Come and experience a different way of life, the satisfaction of simple comforts with a full immersment in nature awaits!

The space
The Dreamcatcher is an eco-friendly self powered earth building constructed with a "back to nature" spirit where guests can feel part of the natural surroundings, with comfort.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

- The main building is a 10m² bedroom and small lounge area offering exceptional views of beautiful Golden bay and the sea beyond, all while surrounded by pristine nature.

The simple outside kitchen has all what you need to cook:
- a gas cooker stove top,
- fry pans and sauce pans
- cooking oil
- little fridge
- coffee plunger & co
- a gas barbecue!
- There is no oven nor microwave

- An amazing outside bush shower under a Kanuka tree with a little protected change cabin and views over the mountains

- Compost toilets are detached from the main building, around a dozen meters away, with great views over the Abel Tasman hills

-There is a heater for a maximum of comfort during the colder months.

- From the cottage you can access a wonderful little walk (1 hr return) on our property, which will bring you to our cafe down the hill

IMPORTANT TO NOTE BEFORE BOOKING:

- Keep in mind that there is a 3 minute walk down and up a little hill from the carpark to the cabin, on an unsealed grassy path, through the bush

- We are totally off the grid and we generate all our power thanks to a Micro Hydro and solar panels, which means we can't allow the use of machines like hairdryer or hair straightener.

- The Dreamcatcher is located at the end of a 2.5km private gravel road which is a bit bumpy and up a hill, but it's fine, you just have to take your time. The road is suitable for 2 wheel drive vehicles.

- Due to its long driveway, we think it's most suitable for those who wish to enjoy relaxing, enjoying the amazing location and visiting the nearby Abel Tasman National  Park rather than those wishing to use it as a base for exploring the rest of Golden Bay.

This is a very private and quiet place, perfect to recharge in the middle of nature with awesome views.

Where you’ll be

Wainui bay, Tasman, New Zealand

We are located on the heights of beautiful Wainui Bay, on the hill toward Totaranui campground in the Abel Tasman National park, Golden Bay side (look for Totos Café & Pizzeria), 35 min drive from Takaka.
It is a remote place so it is best to arrive in the day time if you can.

Our property is bordering the entrance of the northern part of the Abel Tasman National park.
So being right here in the middle of the native bush means there are many fantastic beaches and bush walks close buy in the park:

- To start, we have a beautiful walk on our property, which will bring you down the hill to our cafe ( please check trading hours before coming, it's not always open)

-The Abel Tasman inland walking track can be accessed about 500 meters from the cabin.

- You can park at Pigeon Saddle, the entrance of the Abel Tasman national park (5min drive away) and walk the Northern (and nicest!) part of the Abel Tasman for a full day walk.

- It is at 20 min drive from Wainui bay and 20 min drive from Totaranui beach

Our favorites short walks are:
- the walk from Totaranui to Anapai beach,
- the little forest walk from Pigeon saddle (Inland track) among big old rimus, ratas, miro and others native trees, up to a lookout rock, around 15 min with beautiful views over the native bush and the sea, a real forest bath!

- The walk from Wainui Bay to Taupo point, a previous Maori Pa (fortified village) is a great way to spend half a day and enjoy the pristine area.

- There are lovely waterfalls called Wainui falls just down the road (less than 20 min drive away), which is among one of the best short walks in Golden Bay. So much to do!

- The nearest settlement is Pohara, at 30 min drive, were you can pick up basic supplies at the convenience store Top Shop or the bread shed, and there is a selection of cafés and restaurants, a golf course, a health spa, and more.

- For fuel and supermarket shopping, Takaka is the nearest main town in Golden Bay, at 40 min drive, with many cool places to check out for café, tea room, chocolates, food, craft shopping, go to the village theatre, etc.

- You also have the great possibility to indulge with hand-crafted wood-fired pizza, cold beers, wine, iced coffees and other refreshments at our little place Totos Café & Pizzeria, 30 min walk away, or 15 min by car.
Be aware we aren't always open, check the trading hours or contact us before coming

- Aside from hikes and beautiful beaches around our place, there are a lot of activities to do in Golden Bay: kayaking with Golden Bay Kayaks, horse riding, salmon fishing, fishing charters, flight in a little plane, golf, many cool cafés, etc. If you want to know more you can ask us or directly contact the Golden Bay visitor center: look for "goldenbaynz"
