Welcome to historic Helmwood Hall, in the Heart of Kentucky Horse Country!
Built in the 1830's, extensively restored, the Hall offers gracious charm and comfort on a working Icelandic Horse Farm, Lettleiki Icelandics at Swallowland.
The house is loaded with amenities and expansive, luxurious comfort, the shared common areas offer relaxed down time, and the screened porch southern charm at its best.

The space
Helmwood Hall is a gorgeously renovated historic 1830's home on the National Register, filled with antiques and quality amenities, like chef quality appliances, radiant floor heat, and geothermal HVAC. Guests will have access to the entire house minus the rear upstairs extension. This spacious retreat includes three large bedrooms and one small, two full baths and half bath, several sitting and relaxation areas, fully equipped kitchen, wrap around screened porch and patio. Perfect for a family get away, small group or corporate retreat.

Helmwood Hall is right in the middle of Kentucky farm Country, in Shelby County. The Hall sits on Swallowland Farm, which operates the nation's premier Icelandic Horse training and breeding facility, and a site of World Class Icelandic events with judges from all over the world. There are walking trails for guests to use, as well as ponds and streams to visit, and guests are welcome to visit the horse facility.
In addition, there are several points of interest locally, including an extensive park system in Shelbyville, 10 minutes from the Hall by car, restaurants and coffee shops, farmer's markets, winery's and breweries. The Kentucky Highland Renaissance Festival is but a few minutes away from the Hall during the summer months.
Lance and Maggie keep an extensive list of local attractions in the Guest Book, and will be happy to tell you their favorite spots in person.
