The space
We try to offer luxury and high standards to every guest and so we only accept 4 bookings per month before we block out the remainder - That way we can give the cottage the attention it requires to make your stay one that you will remember (For the right reasons)

If you're after a romantic retreat, a base for your walking or just want to get away from it all for a while - Try Tawny Owl Cottage in the rural village of Murton.

Would you like the woodburner lit for your arrival !!

A welcome pack awaits you so that you can enjoy a nice cuppa after your journey (Tea, coffee, milk and truly free range eggs).

A red sandstone porch houses washer dryer, boot and coat rack and gives access to the cottage over the limestone flooring. This leads directly into the newly fitted kitchen and dining area. The kitchen has fridge freezer, dishwasher, solar hob, electric oven. The high quality utensils and crockery will be prepared for your arrival to complement the handmade units and worktops. Toaster, kettle and an assortment of cooking implements complete the kitchen area which sits alongside the pine table and chairs.

The spiral staircase (NARROW/STEEP) NOT SUITABLE FOR THOSE WITH MOBILITY ISSUES takes you up to the open plan first floor where you will find the living and bedroom area/shower room/toilet.

The living area has fantastic views to the open countryside and fells to the rear. Comfortable wing back chairs and footstool sit ontop of the solid oak flooring in front of the woodburning stove and Smart 48 inch TV. A selection of local area walking books, autobiographies and novels are on the bookshelf for those warm evenings in front of the fire (Basket of wood provided).

The bedroom area sits behind with silver metal double bed, spring and memory foam mattress and quality bedding. A choice of duvet togs is available as well as natural fibre or duck down pillows. Creative storage, mood lighting and fantastic views of the countryside completes the bedroom. The stars at night are amazing or pull down the black out blinds for complete darkness while you listen to the owls in the garden and drift off to sleep.

A separate shower room completes the first floor with Mira air blast shower, heated and lit mirror above the white porcelain sink and vanity unit with seperate dual flush lavatory sitting on the white washed pine flooring. Hand made goats milk soap is provided for that special touch.

Outside you have your own access to your private garden which overlooks the countryside and wooded area to the rear and the fells to one side.

Garden table and chairs are provided so that you can enjoy relaxing in the open air with your coffee or wine whilst watching the abundance of wildlife that frequents the garden and adjoining fields and wooded area. With minimum light pollution and a clear night you will be amazed at the stars above (If you're not afraid of the dark).

The cottage is situated in the stunning village of Murton, an isolated village adjoining The North Pennines, designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty. One of the most remote and unspoilt places in England, it lies between the National Parks of the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and Northumberland with the urban centres of County Durham away to the east.

The location of the cottage makes it an ideal base for your visit to the hidden delights of The Eden Valley or wider areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty or World Heritage Sites.

Walking, road cycling or mountain biking from the doorstep is a delight, Murton Pike and High Cup Nick within minutes. Local amenities and supplies can be obtained from nearby Appleby in Westmorland (3 miles by car)

Parking off road is available for one car, directly outside the cottage. Secure storage for cycles if required is available (prior arrangement required).

The cottage has been refurbished with the environment in mind and utilises air source greener energy for heating and hot water with that all important wood burning stove and locally sourced seasoned wood.
