This is a very small cabin set up like a studio apartment. Its located within a family resort, so there is always lots of action happening around you. At the moment it’s very minimal with decor and it’s pretty rough on the exterior. However, don’t judge a book by its cover! It was recently renovated inside and stays cool on hot days. It’s also so close to the lake that you’ll fall asleep to the waves lapping against the shoreline. We have lots planned in the future for this little cabin!

The space
Cabin 14 is a cute little cabin nestled between a hill and another cabin. It’s admittedly in an awkward spot but the trade off is that it’s the closest cabin we have to the lake and offers one of the best views of the lake and sunsets. Behind the cabin is a small firepit and there will be dry wood for you to burn!

In addition to the cabin you’ll have access to any other common areas at the resort. Beach, boat launch, playground, doggy beach, and trails. There are kayak, paddle board and boat and motor rentals in the summer too! The lodge is closed this year due to COVID-19 unfortunately. Usually we’d host karaoke, bingo, card nights, and even a breakfast restaurant on weekends. Another consequence of COVID is that we’re asking all guests to bring their own bedding (including comforters and pillows) for as long as COVID remains a major global threat.

If it’s solitude you want, try the cabin in the fall, winter, and spring! This cabin is newly fully winterized so it is officially a 4-season destination as of December 2020! Bring your snowshoes or skis because there is a nice little trail system (also new!) on the property. In the fall, you’ll be treated to fantastic displays of autumn foliage. Springtime is muddy but you may be lucky enough to witness the breakup of the lake ice.

In the peak summer months, things you may dislike involve close proximity to other cabins and trailers. This is a large resort and campground and very family oriented. There are kids and pets and manicured lawns. (Dogs are kept on leashes). The wilderness is close, but we are more like a little village than an eco-lodge. The Lancaster family has owned and operated this resort for nearly 40 years and it was a resort long before that. There is a lot of history here. Memories made while on vacation always seem to be the best memories, don’t ya think? Many people who stay here know each other, so some nights there may be more noise, especially on weekends. But hey, if it sounds like a fun time, go ahead and join! We’re a friendly lot! But we are hoping the insulation and good windows in the cabin will block any excess noise. This is also an area with very poor cell coverage. In fact, your phone probably won’t have a signal on the property unless you find the right spot! Wifi in this particular cabin can also be intermittent at times, so if you plan to have an important conference call, this cabin may not be for you.

I’m a fish and wildlife technician based out of my family’s resort in southeastern Ontario. Cabin 16 has been a passion project of mine since I purchased it in 2012. I love to travel as well as home renovation projects. I prefer to reuse and reinvent rather than buy new things, so I usually always have some kind of project on the go!
