Our house is located in the old Eastern Docklands, famous for its modern architecture. From your room you have a wonderful view over the IJ, the historic waterfront from where 400 years ago ships set sail to Brooklyn NY, Capetown SA or Deshima Japan.
There is a double bed for you and a separate couch to chill on. Outside there is a bench to enjoy your view even more! Very quiet at night, but only 15 bus minutes away from the centre! Breakfast is included and we don't charge cleaning cost.

The space

Your room is on the ground floor and has two doors that open directly on to the street. The room is located next to the front door so can you can come home anytime you like without having to disturb others. Besides your own bathroom and toilet there is a tv, a Sonos sound system for music, a fridge, a watercooker, a Nespressomachine and a microwave at your disposal (in case you'd like to prepare you're own food). Each morning we will serve you a small breakfast around eight. If you like to have breakfast earlier, please say so. In front of your room there is a bench on the quay where you can enjoy your breakfast or have a glass of wine or beer in the evening.
We have lots of information available for you: maps and guides, restaurant tips etc etc. A very good site with lots of information about what's going on in Amsterdam is 'iamsterdam' . You really should take a look there before your arrival.
But in case you want some special information, please let us know.
This area is very quiet so you can have a good night sleep. But within 15 minutes you are in the middle of the center by bus or tram.
We are easy accessible by public transport. If you come by car, you have to realize you have to pay for parking within the city of Amsterdam, so also in our street. We advise people who come by car to park at the Park and Ride Zeeburg. Check out their website at iamsterdam.

Guest access

The ground floor is yours. The second and third floor is ours.

Interaction with guests

Depends on you. We're perfectly willing to help you discover Amsterdam. Do not hesitate to ask us anything, we'll be around quite often. If we are, come and have a drink upstairs.

Other things to note

We have two very nice dogs, (working) border collies, but we will keep them on our floor. If you are allergic to dogs, please take your precautions. And we have two grandchildren, a girl of three years old and a boy of just one year. We take care of them two days a week.

I really loved my stay at Maike & Caspar's home. The room is really snug and elegant. I could almost sit in the room the whole day and read one of the books from the library as I watch the waters. It's one of the best places to be in. Maike and Caspar are very friendly hosts. I would highly recommend staying at their place even if it costs a bit of a premium. It's worth it!

The accomodation is very nice and located a bit outside of the inner city of Amsterdam. Still, it is easy to reach the centre by bus. The room is very bright and friendly. Maike provided very good tipps for exploring Amsterdam and prepared a very lovely breakfast. We really liked to stay at her home and would definitely recommend the accomodation for Amsterdam-trips!

The room was lovely and exactly as pictured. I spent a lot of time staring at the huge wall of amazing books! The breakfast each morning was great and we looked forward to it on both days of our stay - a good selection of breads, croissants, small cakes, fruit and yoghurts. Probably one of the best places I've stayed using Airbnb and I don't say that lightly. Maike and Casper were also very welcoming and helpful. Helped us store our biked when we struggled with the lock and accommodated our late check-in when we arrived. Great place - would recommend.

Maike and Caspar are wonderful hosts. We only stayed with them for a short period but they were kind and accommodating. The house is beautiful and the neighbourhood is in a great location. It is quiet, very safe and easy to get to access other parts of Amsterdam. The breakfast was delicious and they provided everything we needed in order to be comfortable. The room and bathroom is super clean and tidy and they even supplied a coffee machine, coffee and a fridge. I would feel very comfortable recommending them to anyone who needed a place to stay in Amsterdam. They are both lovely people and we each said we wish we could have spent more time with them.

Maike and Caspar's place is amazing, they are incredible hosts with their hospitality being faultless. It is easy to get there from Centraal Station, and their instructions are accurate and communication is super quick. The breakfast provided each morning is delicious and had an amazing spread of goodies. They even have cute tourism resources and a map of things in the area, recommendations etc which was helpful. Oh and Maike very thoughtfully told us to download the CityMapper App which was gold for getting around Amsterdam. The bed is comfy, there is space to store your luggage to get it out of the way and make it feel more homely and the area is lovely and quiet with a gorgeous view. Maike and Caspar are beautiful hosts and nothing is too much trouble. We would 110% stay here again, this AirBnB is amazing!

After having lived for years right in the hectic centre of Amsterdam we decided to move to this quiet old harbor area. Maike used to work as a book and paper conservator and Caspar is still active as a journalist.
The things we like: Taking a dive in the IJ in front of our house to wake up. Have an espresso afterwards as a reward. Going to the Bimhuis - a famous jazzcafe - in the evening to listen to Ibrahim Maalouf (yes, you can listen his music on Spotify). Making nice meal, having a good glass of wine, watching the ships go by....
And of course, helping you trying to figure out what museum to visit, where you can find to best and cheapest restaurant, what beer is best (Heineken or Grolsch), if the Red Light District is safe to visit at night (YES), and where to find the hottest place in town (right across the IJ).
