Unique miner's casita in the GhostTown. Basic and organic: built by loving hands a hundred years ago, but comfortably updated. Enjoy the kitchen or stroll the neighborhood for dinner out. Porch has award-winning views. Mountains! Stars!

The space

The house was dubbed "Boystown" by Oregon river guides living here in the 80's, and the name just stuck. This stacked limestone cabin can comfortably fit one or two people. It has a bedroom, a kitchen, a living room, and a bathroom. Please note that the bathroom is separate from the house, but only a few steps out the back door. The patio, the porch and the yard all offer stunning views of the mountains and badlands of Big Bend National Park. Not to mention the night sky with stars from horizon to horizon. Float the river, enjoy world class biking or hiking only minutes away at Big Bend National Park or Big Bend Ranch State Park.

Guest access

There is no Wi-Fi available on premises, but guests can access it at the Starlight Restaurant or La Posada coffee shop, both very nearby.

Interaction with guests

I live nearby and would be happy to share my knowledge of Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park as well as the Terlingua area itself.

This is a magical place. Highly recommend a visit. Betty has done an incredible job restoring this home & adding awesome art & style that completely capture Terlingua's vibe. This is a great spot to get away, switch up the pace, look at the stars & visit Big Bend. We had a wonderful visit and will definitely stay at Betty's place again.

The casita is pretty much as listed. I'm unsure if it is noted that an all-terrain or high clearance vehicle is recommended, but the road the place is located on is unpaved and very uneven. The bathroom is separate from the casita, which is mentioned in the listing, however, there is a window right next to the toilet and I did not feel as though it was private enough not to have a shade or curtain one could cover it with in the evenings when the light needed to be on. There are 2 other properties nearby, one of which is an airstream which was a lot closer to the casita than we expected. The location is great, however, and is walking distance to the coffee shop mentioned, as well as the Terlingua cemetery and the Starlight Theatre. There are various options to keep cool either with the windows open, a ceiling fan in the bedroom, a window unit for a/c, as well as multiple fans throughout. Betty also has a well-stocked kitchen if you decide you would like to cook some meals as opposed to going out and the bathroom features toiletries in case you didn't pack any.

Unique accommodations, perfect location, and a great host. We will certainly stay at one of Betty's properties when we return to the Big Bend area.

A terrific cabin in Terlingua Ghost Town. Excellently preserved and updated, this lovely stone cabin was a delightful place to stay while enjoying Big Bend National Park, local scenery, and the landscape of the Chihuahuan desert. The cabin is much more accommodating than expected and had all of the modern amenities. Just lovely, really can't wait to stay again!!

Quiet. Calm. Peaceful. Soothing. We enjoyed our time at Boystown and hope to return soon. The house was the perfect place for some easy downtime. It's mostly removed from any hustle or bustle, but we could still walk to the nearby restaurants when we didn't want to eat in. Evenings were spent watching scaled quail and desert cottontails wander by while the stars started to come out. Not shown in the pictures we saw are a full-sized refrigerator and four-burner stove; we picked up some things along the way and were able to make full meals in the kitchen. Yes, the doorways are short, but we only bumped our heads one or two times each.

Betty's place is amazing! If you are looking to get the full Terlingua experience, this is a perfect place. It was an adorable, quaint, centrally located authentic house. Betty was so helpful in planning our hikes and things-to-do. Great choice!

Betty User ProfileBetty is a superhost.

I've lived in Terlingua for nearly thirty years. I first came to Big Bend to go on a rafting trip, and I fell in love with the landscape. When I finally moved here, I bought three dilapidated mining ruins, and I've worked on restoring them over the years.

I have managed a bookstore in the Ghost Town for the past 13 years, but when I got here I worked as a river guide. I've also worked as a field biologist all over the western United States. I've released peregrine falcons, California condors and aplomado falcons into the wild, and have studied other endangered species as well. My work took me to Yosemite National Park, the Channel Islands, Montana's Centennial Valley, Rocky Mountain National Park, Big Bend National Park, and the Grand Canyon.

I love to hike and bird and boat and travel with my dog. I'm happy to share my knowledge of this beautiful desert with you.
