Matt Foley Suite/1 of 4 unique shelters at Pedernales River Habitat/non-smoking property: Off-grid glamping-dbl bed w/elec. blanket in winter. Cool night breeze (+ fans) in summer (day-use generator-powered AC if>90F, 11a-10p). A touch of comfort, but it's still camping! Surround sound, DVD player, fridge, microwave, sink, indoor & outdoor camping toilet for peeing, priv. outdoor compost toilet/shower. 3,000 sq ft deck/outdoor kitchen/hot tub, overlooks the River (See below for Covid procedures)

The space
This is a no-smoking property (vaping is allowed OUTDOORS and at your site only but not in any public areas, deck, outdoor kitchen, docks, etc.). If you must smoke, use the parking area in front of the property and do not leave your butts on the ground. $200 fine for smoking on the property (except in designated area) outdoors and $500 fine plus actual remediation costs for smoking inside. In either case your stay will be cancelled and you will have to leave the property immediately.

The outdoor spaces on the three acres here are well suited to increased social distancing and I have implemented some cleaning procedures which meet the highest standard for stopping the spread of viruses. Your lodging unit will be thoroughly cleaned before and after your stay. Additionally, no other guests will have stayed in your unit for 48 hours before and after your stay. All bed linens and towels are washed, then hung to dry in the sun so it can do it's natural sanitizing job.

Any shared areas are cleaned frequently by the host and you will have access to Lysol/Clorox cleaner/wipes and paper towels to do extra cleaning immediately before your use. I keep a bucket with a jug of Clorox available in the outdoor kitchen so you can sanitize any dishes you need before using them.

Here’s how you can help:

•Pack extra soap or hand sanitizer. We have plenty of soap on hand but hand sanitizer is not always available locally.

* If you have been sick in the last two weeks, please stay at home for your health and the safety of others.

In Winter bring clothing for a cold weather camping experience. Work closely with host to learn best use practice with solar power to have adequate battery charge for all-night use of an electric blanket. Start a fire in the fire-pit for Texas cold nights and I recommend sweatpants/sweatshirts for sleeping. If temps drop below 40 for an extended period the propane heater can be hooked up for use only while guests are in the bus AND awake (due to safety concerns). The nearby travel trailer which serves as a shared bathroom for camping guests, is heated on cold mornings.

For hot summer nights there are fans to augment the river breeze, and a mosquito net over the bed.

Although the Skoolie rental includes private access to the converted school bus and the immediately surrounding area, the rest of the property is shared with up to 6 additional guests.

In addition to the outdoor al fresco shower with a view, there is a composting toilet available next to the skoolie. When it is too cold for the camping restroom/shower, the onsite travel trailer, located just over 100 feet from the Skoolie has a shared bathroom also. You also have your own private toilet/urinal inside the Skoolie.

The travel trailer/restroom/shower is a shared area. Clean up after yourself and keep in mind other guests will be using the area.

USB plugs available in the Skoolie for recharging phones and other electronic devices.

We supply you with fresh-ground, locally roasted beans for use with French Press provided, or percolator coffee-maker in outdoor kitchen, white sugar, sugar-in-the-raw, honey, whole milk, half & half.

You will also have shared access to the floating-dock and boat rentals, which include a 2-person canoe ($10/hr), and one-person kayak ($7.50/hr) cash only.

I usually keep firewood on hand for use by donation, but it is also usually available at the local Weinheimer's General Store

Skoolie stays also include shared access to the outdoor kitchen and upper deck (available 7a-10p, description below).

The bed has a mosquito net for warm weather (fan available for warmer, still nights). Generator powered AC available from 11 am to 10 pm when 90F+. Extra blankets (including an electric blanket) and propane heater (day-use only) for cold Texas winters

Dodecahedron fireplace available next to the picnic table and awning covered sitting area with two lawn chairs.

OUTDOOR KITCHEN AND UPPER DECK WITH HOT TUB (available 7a-10p). A funky and eclectic area on the slab of an historic building that once served as a car-repair garage. Only two walls of the original structure remain and a metal roof was put over a portion of the slab to provide cover to the outdoor kitchen. The slab now serves as a 3,000 sq. ft. patio with deck attached, all overlooking the Pedernales River and nearby hills (a great place to watch the sunset) with:
deck chairs
table and chairs
patio fire-pit
chimenea
Hot-tub (towels available)
Outdoor kitchen available for cooking breakfast/lunch/dinner with:
refrigerator/freezer
propane grill
double sink
microwave
toaster oven.
cooking utensils, pots/pans, dishes, cooking oil, and some spices.

Guest access
This property is situated on 3 acres of Pedernales riverfront in Stonewall, Texas. Country views in a tiny, Hill Country Texas town. The upper deck, with outdoor kitchen (7a-10p) and hot tub is shared.

Other things to note

This tiny town has a population of 500. Wienheimer's General store sells groceries, hardware, clothing, kitchen supplies, shoes and boots, and has a meat market and deli. Chocolates El Rey is a local importer of Chocolates and offers free chocolate tastings. The LBJ Ranch National Park is two miles down the road, as is the LBJ State Park, home of the Sauer-Beckmann Farmstead, a great place to visit and see how the local German-settlers lived around the turn of the 20th century.

I work as a nurse in the Fredericksburg area so close attention to COVID-19 precautions and cleaning are a priority. Bob, my husband, is my co-host. Bob's roots here are deep. His German family immigrated to the county in 1846. He is a wealth of knowledge of the area, hill country bike rides, and history. We have both enjoyed the local restaurants, wineries, breweries, bike riding, and local events and entertainment and will gladly provide good advise for your stay.
