Authentic off-the-grid Mongolian yurt with windows, skylight, and wood stove for year-round enjoyment.

Our lovely 20 foot (approx 300sf) yurt is located in a private corner of our property, adjacent to the woods. It is one large open room with an outbuilding toilet, sink, & shower.

On a clear night, stargaze from the comfort of the (very comfortable) bed. On a rainy night, enjoy the sound of the rain on the roof.

.

The space
Our yurt is located in our ever expanding garden, surrounded by seasonal greenery and flowers. We keep chickens and the area is visited by a wide variety of birds, butterflies, the occasional bear, and the usual fauna of Western Massachusetts.

Electricity is provided via a solar panel-powered battery.
Water is accessed outdoors just a few steps away. The shower is propane-heated and solar-powered.
There is a small refrigerator.
Cook on the propane grill or wood stove. Electric kettle runs on a solar battery for your coffee or tea.

Relax on the hammock with a book, or if it’s raining, take your book in and make use of the rocking chair while you enjoy the sound of the rain on the roof.

We provide plenty of interesting books on local history and activities, as well as novels, short stories, and other books of interest.

We welcome everyone.

Sheffield, Massachusetts, United States

Sheffield is an area of year-round outstanding natural beauty. The Housatonic river is the reason people have settled here, and there are many other bodies of water nearby in addition to rolling hills, mountains, streams, waterfalls, and forests. There are plenty of opportunities for social-distancing fun.
Our property is in a historically Black neighborhood.

Onsite outdoor games: croquet, badminton, horseshoes.

Within walking distance: tennis, basketball, track.

Biking distance (bikes available to borrow): hikes, basic shops, covered bridge, UFO park, Housatonic river, public library, restaurants, liquor stores, distillery, and brewery.

Driving distance: swimming holes, river kayaking (rentals available), canoeing (canoe available if you have a roof rack), restaurants & shops, historic houses, Tanglewood, Mass MOCA, innumerable hiking areas of natural beauty, WEB DuBois homestead site, historical marker for Shay's Rebellion, rock climbing, ski slopes, indoor ice skating, leaf peeping, mushroom hunting.

The Trustees of Reservation operate over a dozen sites in the area.
