Our French-style PH is over 100 years old, and lies at the intersection of three much-visited barrios: bohemian San Telmo, upscale Puerto Madero, and football-crazy La Boca. It's a short walk to the tangotastic Plaza Dorrego in the heart of San Telmo, and just 2 blocks from the huge Sunday market on Defensa. Yet we're also just 4 blocks away from the hip and stylish waterfront of Puerto Madero. Our characterful (2 bed/1 bath/80m2) apartment combines period features and modern comforts.
I love Buenos Aires! It's famous for its culture, eclectic mix of European and Spanish Colonial architecture, great food, and buzzy nightlife.
Our apartment is just a few blocks from the heart of bohemian San Telmo, the city oldest barrio and the touristic Spanish Colonial quarter of the city. Here you can see tango on Plaza Dorrego, buy gifts in the hugely popular Feria de San Pedro Telmo every Sunday, and get fresh fruit and veg from the Mercado San Telmo. There's great Argentine wine available, delicious street food of choripan and empanadas, and excellent restaurants with wonderful steaks, meats, and pasta/pizza.
Go in the opposite direction, and in just a few blocks, you hit Puerto Madero, the fabulous waterfront district with ritzy high-rise towers, and renovated warehouses full of stylish bars, cafes and restaurants.
This listing is for ONE PRIVATE BEDROOM, with a double bed, suitable for 1 person or a couple. There is under-bed storage, a large, modern wardrobe, a chest of drawers, and a small desk. The room has its own AC unit.
It's a 2 bed, 1 bath apartment so you will be SHARING the large kitchen/diner, lounge, and bathroom. I have two listings: #1 is the main bedroom, #2 is the second bedroom (https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/3939849).
CHECK-IN: I've set specific times for check-out and check-in, so we have time to get everything cleaned up between guests.
The apartment is one of 14 in a large, turn-of-the-century, French-style PH. Our neighbor is the new glass-fronted government (Poder Judicial) building at 1333.
For more info on the neighborhood and what it's like to stay here, check out Defensa Suites San Telmo and La Casita de San Telmo both of which are just around the corner from us (but substantially more expensive).
I included my photos of the neighborhood, so most of these are within a few blocks (apart from Casa Rosada & Torre Monumental which are a 20 minutes walk).
The apartment is fully-furnished and equipped. You have SHARED use of: the bathroom (modernized, with separate shower and toilet); large kitchen/diner (with cooker, fridge/freezer, and a dining/work table); lobby/lounge (with 47" flat-screen TV) and WiFi.
Interaction with guests
Well, we're now back in the UK. So, most likely, you will see Anabel, our friend and neighbor. She's a lovely lady, and knows lots about San Telmo and Buenos Aires and tango. The flat has two double bedrooms, so if we're not here you could be sharing with another Airbnb guest.
Other things to note
I find it's a great place for a daily walk/run.
Firstly, apartment is top-floor (2nd after 1st/ground) with no elevator, so stairs every day!
Two blocks away is the recently renovated Parque Lezama, for a short walk and some exercises on the grass.
There's a great 3km walk of the Puerto Madero waterfront. There's also an official loop through and around Puerto Madero with 8 exercise locations, so you can get a good workout.
My favorite is the large (350 hectares) and beautiful Reserva Ecologica, on the bank of the Rio de la Plata, on the far side of Puerto Madero. Walk or run around this, and you're talking major workout... or just stroll around, sit at the beach, and enjoy a picnic.
Well, hopefully, just being your usual charming and friendly self will be just fine! Please take care of our apartment, and leave it as you hope to find it. It's a family building so we have to be respectful about noise at night. No pets or smoking or parties please!
Also, I've put our check-in and check-out times, to avoid confusion, and to give ourselves time to get everything spick-and-span before your arrival. However, please don't think these times are set in stone; we try to be as flexible as we can. If we have other guests, we have less flexibility, but we can usually arrange for you to drop your luggage off early/or pick it up later. However, for very "unsociable" arrivals (23:00 to 07:00) we charge an extra $5 USD.
