Exuma has arguably the most beautiful water in the world! My place is located in a neighborhood called The Cays on the South side, just 10 minutes from the airport (GGT), and 10 minutes from Georgetown for shopping, restaurants, and more. It’s a super comfortable 3 bedroom, 3 bath house that sleeps 6. Book a trip to see the swimming pigs or drive to dozens of immaculate empty beaches, or relax at our community pool and watch the sunset over the water.

The space
The Bahamas is back open! A COVID screening is required within 5 days of your arrival, unless you're fully vaccinated. Please visit travel (no spaces) for details. Also see Getting Here in the Location section below for more travel information.

Please note: the "beach" that's right next to our property isn't really a sandy beach. It's on the leeward side of the island, so the water is shallow for 50 miles out. While there is sand that has been brought in to the recreation area, it's not the normal sandy beach that you would expect. You can definitely swim there, but for the ultimate Exuma experience, you'll want to rent a car so that you can drive to any number of dozens of pristine beaches with no one around (anywhere from a 3 minute to a 1 hour drive), or take the water taxi over to the Chat N Chill on Stocking Island.

It's an awesome place to return home to and cook dinner and get a great night sleep. The pool is easy access and the sunsets are some of the best on the island. But there's so much to do in Exuma, that most people want to be out exploring away from their house anyway.

Upon booking, you'll get a link to my Exuma DIY Tour Guide for all kinds of suggestions on what to do.

Island activities include world-class bone-fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, kitesurfing, surfing, paddle boarding, and kayaking. There are plenty of “trails” to run and endless swimming. There’s also tennis, volleyball, and bocce ball. Much of the fun is had on the water, check out a day charter to Thunderball Grotto and the swimming pigs, or take the water taxi over to the Chat n’ Chill. Evenings are typically spent at different bars and restaurants with live bands, DJs, and Karaoke.

If you’re one that can’t go without aerobic exercise, there are plenty of safe old roads for trail running and it’s pretty easy to run to the beach on the Atlantic side (about a mile away) and then run on the beach. There’s also the biggest “swimming pool” in the world all around you when you hit the beach or hop on a boat.

FOOD AND DINING (also see my Exuma DIY Tour Guide PDF once you book):
Expect lots of fried fish, fried conch, and french fries. I especially like cracked conch, (tenderized and then deep-fried). When you eat out, remember that you are now on “island time”. Be patient as the speed of service on a Caribbean island is considerably slow compared to the states. Drinks vary in price. Beers are typically $5 and Cocktails are $10. Entrées at the lower key restaurants are $10-$25. Nicer places are $25 to $50. Gratuity is often included, so pay attention to your receipt to know when.

The house has air-conditioning, but it is rarely needed, as there are ceiling fans throughout. Feel free to open all the windows when there’s a slight breeze out. Temperatures in the winter range from 66 at night to 85 degrees during the day. In the summer, temperatures usually do not exceed 90 degrees.

The Wifi is pretty good (5 to 20 MBps). There is a TV, but no cable or satellite. I have an Apple TV that’s hooked up to Netflix, etc.

Where you’ll be

George Town, Exuma, Bahamas

The Cays is a small, family friendly community with a pool, beach, and the best sunsets in Exuma. Relax on the lounge chairs, in one of the hammocks, or sit at the bar with friends and watch a spectacular sunset. The Cays is on the Southwest side of Great Exuma overlooking the bone fishing flats. Great Exuma is one of the quietest and most relaxed islands in the Bahamas. The island's beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world.

Exuma (population ~6,000) is a fairly primitive island in many aspects. The road (yes, it’s pretty much one main road) is often full of potholes, but is currently being rebuilt. There is not a stoplight on the island and only a few stop signs. There are no corporate chains of any kind. The only non-local businesses are the Napa Auto Parts store (called AID) and the banks. English is the language, but the locals speak a dialect amongst themselves that is often impossible to understand. Remember, you're on an island! So leave all of your worries behind and set your expectations for service and speed accordingly. Exuma is definitely on island time! But it's all made up for by the friendliness of the people and ... the water. It is often rated by travel magazines in the top 10 of the most beautiful waters in the world.
