This charming and cosy apartment in the new town is furnished in traditional Moroccan style. Up three flights of stairs, this is an exceptionally quiet building with plenty of privacy. Enjoy the large secluded terrace with table and chairs, and take the spiral staircase to the roof terrace for panoramic views.

The space
All furniture and fittings have been handmade locally. The floors are bejmat tiles, and the walls are tadelakt, a traditional plaster. In the bedroom, the wardrobe and dressing table provide plenty of storage space. A large air-conditioning unit cools during the warmer months and quickly warms the entire apartment on cooler winter evenings. The open plan kitchen has a gas hob and a toaster oven. If you would like a local person to come and cook Moroccan dishes for you, this can be arranged for a modest fee - just ask!

- The mattress is a new Simmons "pillow top", purchased January 2020. Size is a double/full, 140cm x 190cm.

- Bedroom and living room windows open onto the street (not onto a light-well, as in most apartments) and have wooden shutters.

- We clean as much as possible with unscented products and and wash sheets with unscented detergent. If you have specific allergies or MCS, please let us know your needs in advance.

- For the enjoyment of our future guests and in consideration of our neighbours and cleaning staff, we do not allow smoking anywhere in the apartment or on the property. We also request that you keep alcohol consumption to a minimum, and that you remove all alcohol containers (after rinsing) from the building and take them where they can be recycled.

- Is there something you need to know about the apartment? Please ask!

Guest access
This is a small apartment building with three apartments. Guests enter through the main building door and climb three flights of stairs to reach the top floor (there is no apartment on the ground floor). Once inside the apartment, you also have access to the terrace and from the terrace you have access to the roof top from where you can enjoy views over the town.

Location

Essaouira, Marrakech-Safi, Morocco

The apartment is located in the Azlef neighbourhood, immediately adjacent to the Borj. You are just a few steps away from the local hammam (Hammam Ghita) and about two minutes’ walk from the best French patisserie in town, Patisserie Patachou, which is also a café offering coffee, tea, and sandwiches in addition to divine pastries. There is a variety of French, Italian, and Moroccan restaurants in the immediate neighbourhood, and many more in the medina (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and along the beach front. You are approximately eleven minutes’ walk from the beach, and twenty minutes’ walk from the medina. Local taxis are easy to find and all charge a fixed rate of just 7 dirham during the day and 8 dirham at night, no matter the distance.
Azlef is a local neighbourhood of modest apartments, not a tourist area. You will find plenty of green grocers, butchers, and small kiosk-type shops. Fresh fruit and vegetables are abundant and cheap. There is a large Carrefour supermarket less than twenty minutes away on foot. The beach is popular for windsurfing and kitesurfing, camel rides and horse riding, and the annual Gnaoua music festival is world-famous. This is a wonderful small, historic city to visit and to live in. It is an easy and pleasant place for single women travellers (just keep in mind local expectations regarding appropriate dress). I have made it my home since early 2019 and fell in love as soon as I arrived. I hope you will too

I’ve travelled my entire life and have worked and lived in many countries (Austria, Australia, France, Malta, UK, US, New Zealand, Rwanda, DR Congo, Indonesia, East Timor). In early 2019 I stepped off the Supratours bus in front of the Essaouira medina walls and fell in love with the city. As a traveller I’ve developed a strong sense of what I expect to find in an excellent AirBnB. Feeling part of the local community and having contact with locals is a big part of that. This is why I decided to set up a small business working closely with a local partner who shares my values. We both wish to provide visitors with a taste of Moroccan hospitality and the best possible experience of Essaouira during their stay. We value guests who are here to enjoy this superb UNESCO World Heritage site, the art and culture of the city, and to make the most of the world-class beach that offers kite-surfing, wind-surfing, surfing, camel rides, horse rides, and long walks at low-tide. We understand the needs of guests with chemical sensitivities, gluten intolerance and fructose intolerance. Please let us know how we can help you in meeting your needs, and we will do our best. I speak conversational French, German, and Indonesian, and understand some Spanish & Portuguese.

Nicola has been staying in AirBnBs all over the world since 2014 and speaks English, French, German, Indonesian, and a little Spanish.
