"Umetan FUJI" is 100-years-old house in a small rural village, where classical Japanese life still remains. Owner Michiko lives here and the house is to be used exclusive for 1 group. You can not reach this place without vehicle but beautiful landscape in the nature and traditional-looking townscapes will entertain you while driving. The host Michiko really loves to introduce this area "Tamba Sasayama" which is the unknown but the best town to learn essentials of traditional Japan.

Where you’ll be

Tanbasasayama-shi, Hyogo, Japan

Tamba Sasayama city is designated as Japan Heritage with the properties of Sasayama castle, the townscape of castle town, Tamba ceramics which is one of the 6 oldest kilns of Japan, and "Dekansho" folk dance and music. This small city with population of 39,000 people locates just in the center of west Japan, Hyogo prefecture. Despite of the good accessibility from Kyoto or Osaka (1.5 hours from each city), there still remains good classic old atmosphere with traditional looking houses, villages, paddy fields surrounded by mountain basin. There are some roads which is designated as the Important Preservation Districts for Groups of Historic Buildings by government. This unfamiliar small town is where you can find gem of Japan, which is much more quiet place with less tourists than Kyoto or Osaka. Michiko is also an expert guide of the town not only as a host of Umetan FUJI.

Hi! I'm Michiko, the owner of Umetan FUJI. I am from Hyogo prefecture which Tamba Sasayama belongs. I returned to Hyogo from Tokyo in 2017 because I was attracted to this city "Tamba Sasayama" which is really local based, full of gem with classic life in the countryside. I see here everyday "THIS IS JAPAN". I also love food culture here with fresh good vegetables especially Edamame of black soybean in October. Harvest and eat it! I will take you to the fields!
