The space

Located in the hip Highlands neighborhood, this private luxury apartment offers a full kitchen and bath, vaulted ceilings, and master bedroom with queen size bed. Character, charm and convenience in Louisville, KY. Come and stay awhile.

The treetop apartment is filled with skylights and has its own rooftop deck. It has a staircase up to the apartment that is sturdy and quite lovely. It's an easy five-minute walk to dozens (really, we mean dozens) of coffee shops, restaurants, pubs, and art galleries. You're also close to Cherokee Park and on the edge of downtown Louisville. This home was built in the 1880s for a steamboat captain on the Ohio River. Heart of pine floors, exposed brick chimneys, air conditioning, full-size refrigerator, microwave, smoothtop electric range and fully equipped kitchen.

Separate living room features full-size sofa, books and board games, 40-inch flatscreen TV with Blu Ray player, cable TV, Amazon TV, Netflix and other streaming channels for all your favorite movies and shows.

Two traditional beds, one pillow-top queen and one double. Additional guests sleep on foldout futon.

Wake up in the morning, relax on your treetop deck, then walk to breakfast at a local restaurant or coffee shop (see our guide book for details). Return in the evening for drinks and dinner, and shopping at art galleries and boutiques. The Original Highlands neighborhood is a mecca for eclectic and independent local culture. This apartment is just two blocks from the Baxter Avenue and Bardstown Road corridors, which include Molly Malone's, O'Shea's, Wick's Pizza, Jack Fry's, Quill's Coffee, Holy Grale, Heine Bros Coffee, and much more.
We love hosting guests in Louisville, whether it's one day, a week, or longer.

Our neighborhood is full of charm and character. Expect big Victorian style houses, big trees and many areas to get pleasantly lost. The space is located on the TOP floor of our home. So, there are stairs to climb to get there. We are always happy to help carry luggage if we are home. Additionally, there are some steep angles in the apartment but we think it adds to the charm. And if you don't want charm its probably better to stay in a hotel, right?

Jen & Alex were great hosts! They met us at the door and introduced themselves and let us know they were available if we needed anything. The location of their place was great; very close to the party that is Bardstown Road! But, as they mention getting up to the third floor apartment requires lots and lots of climbing. It was a bit challenging to carry our luggage up but overall it was still a great stay!

We enjoyed our stay at the Highlands Hideaway very much! It was our first time to Louisville and the location was great for us. Walking distance to lots of restaurants. Quiet setting in neighborhood with mature trees and lovely architecture. The third floor rental is very spacious and has lots of natural light. The beds were comfy with nice linens. The AC was wonderfully cold and hot water was always there when we needed it regardless of the time of day we showered. The kitchen has full size appliances and all the dishes and utensils we needed. Jen and Alex communicated very well and even gave us the heads up when a community event was happening one day that might have created less parking on their street momentarily and offered to retrieve us if we couldn't park close by. We stayed there seven nights and always were able to park in front of the house or a few spaces away.

My husband and I recently spent two nights at Jen & Alex's treehouse apartment. It was clean and well maintained and the separate outdoor entrance made it feel as though we weren't trekking through their personal space. The space had plenty of room and we met both Jen & Alex during our stay, who were both extremely friendly. The location is in a nice quiet residential neighborhood that's about 2 miles from downtown or a $7 uber ride. It included most amenities that you'd find at a hotel (towels, shampoo, body wash, dishes, mugs, coffee maker, etc). Overall, it's a nice space for a reasonable price that is close enough to downtown without being in the midst of the city hustle and bustle.

Great stay!! We've never been to Louisville prior to this trip and didn't know what to expect. The neighborhood of Jen and Alex's place is adorable and very historic full of beautiful buildings. It's also right around the corner from Baxter which is full of places to eat and drink. We loved Morel's (vegan food) and it was about a 10 minute walk. The place is as pictures and very roomy. We met Alex for a brief moment, but Jen and Alex are accessible and great with communication. We'll come back here when we return!

We are happy to have the chance to host folks in our home! We have lived in the Highlands neighborhood of Louisville since 2003. We love sharing the River City with visitors. We are happy to give advice about where to eat, drink, and play (climb, bike, run, camp, yoga) in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
