This duplex is great for multi-family functions. Ocean front with 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and an arcade! Each side has 3 beds, 2 baths, living room and a full kitchen. The units connect in the middle to open up or can be closed for more privacy.

The space

Octalope

An ocean front house with 6 bedrooms, 4 baths, 2 separate kitchens and an arcade on a huge lot! This is a great place for a large extended family or for several families to share, or for smaller groups that just need a lot of bedrooms.

The house is located on a quiet, dead-end street in south Rockaway Beach about half a mile south of the Twin Rocks and 1.5 miles south of downtown Rockaway. It is a side-by-side duplex with interior doors that open to combine the 2 units. Each side has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, open kitchen/living/dining areas. The house was originally built in the 70’s and was updated in 2014 (new flooring, paint, etc), but we tried to keep as much of the original vintage style as possible.

The two main living areas (kitchen, dining and living) are upstairs to take full advantage of the views and there is a large deck that extends across the entire house that overlooks the ocean and Twin Rocks. Plus there are four bedrooms with queen beds and two bathrooms upstairs. Downstairs you will find two more large bedrooms, each with queen beds, sleeper sofas, full bathrooms and LCD televisions. The downstairs bedroom on the North side also has twin bunk beds in addition to the queen bed. There are also 2 fold down sleeper sofas, one in each living room. That’s enough room to sleep 14 people in beds and 2 more on sleeper sofas, for a total of 16.

The 3/4 acre property is right on the beach and the house sits about 500 feet from the ocean. A private path through our yard leads you down some stairs, across a wooden bridge over a stream and through a small wooded area to a quiet beach with a great view of the Twin Rocks. Along the path, you will also pass our new Hobbit Hole play house for the kids (or adults) to enjoy when they get tired of the beach or the arcade.

There is a hot tub on the lower deck with a view of the ocean.

There are two garages, each with retro arcades. The games will vary, but may include air hockey, ping pong, foosball, Double Shot two player basketball games, Super Mario Bros multicade (with 19 different games including Mario Bros, Joust Defender and many more), Dig Dug multicade (with 60 games including Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug and many more), shooting games such as Area 51 or House of the Dead. All games are set for free play, so no need to bring quarters. Please note that some arcade games may not be operational during your stay, these are older games that sometimes break and we can't always fix them right away.

There is enough room to park about 6 vehicles in the driveway and the north side of the house. There is no additional on street parking because the house is located on a private road.

Pay attention to the directions. It’s easy to miss the turn off of the highway.

Octalope is a great place for a big crowd. We slept 17 comfortably and there were even fold out beds to spare. The walk to beach is lovely and view from the deck is spectacular. I highly recommend any of Rachelle's 'lopes as a getaway.

Great location and we enjoyed the multiple rooms, with the two kitchens being a huge asset! Our family reunion was a success because of the space everyone had to escape to when needed. I would recommend you bring your own cooking utensils and pans if you are a foodie as the quality supplied did not allow for the best cooking experiences. Rachelle was very communicative and a good host.

The location is great. Right on the beach. And the house fairly large. Unfortunately the house is outdated and requires significant improvements. The garden that leads to the beach could be super nice but it also requires some work. Overall we had a nice stay but this location could offer much more than it currently does.

Great place for a large group with older children. It was a bit challenging with several very young ones. Beautiful short walk to the beach but if you have very young children there isn't a yard where they can play.

About me. Well, I live a pretty fun life. I'm VP Operations and Finance at a software company that gives me unlimited vacation so I get to travel, play and spend time with my friends and family often. I have a good solid mix of healthy chaos and relaxation and love dancing, yoga, beer and finance. I absolutely love to organize and balance T-accounts in my spare time when I'm not doing the above or snuggling with my amazing husband and furry friends at home.
