The space
Welcome to Fort Waddington!

This cabin was built by our family in 1970 and holds many great memories of summers growing up by Green lake.

What to expect:

Most of the furnishings are vintage and original to when the cabin was built - handmade blankets by our grandmother. Our cabin is about a 20 to 30-minute drive in from 70 Mile General Store where you can get most daily food items, toiletries, and gifts.

Cabin has been recently updated with 2 new queen sized beds, a water cooler, new carpet, kitchen pots and pans, and accessories.

The woodburning stove will make the most amazing roasts you have ever tasted!

The cabin has been retrofitted for a gravity shower - huge relief when being in the woods for several days. Fill blue water barrel with warm water and place it on the shelf. The shower nozzle has a lever to stop and start the water flow.

The water barrel behind the kitchen can be filled with water for washing only. Please, note-there is not actively running water. Guests must bring their own water supply. The campsite is open in the spring and you can fill your water barrels using the provincial campsite taps. Need help locating water, please contact me and I can help.

Fully stocked kitchen for a comfortable stay any time of the year!

The quietest and most serene place to unwind and de-stress!

Labour exchanges accepted - message for details or inquiries

Please do not use the wood stove if you do not feel you can use it safely! DO NOT light a fire in the oven, please!

If you need help or haven't used a wood stove, please don't hesitate to ask. It can be finicky. Best to heat it up slowly with kindling - place in the back so the heat can rise and draw the smoke up. Then build the fire slowly to the front. Open the air intake on the side until you get a good flame. A bellow is available. As the flame grows, slowly close air intake to about 1/4 open. There is a lever in the back right corner of the stove top. Ensure this is open to the right. This will reduce smoke in the cabin. It can also help to heat up the cabin with the radiant warmer first. It is a temperature and oxygen intake balancing act.

ONLY use cast iron pans on the wood stove. The heat will warp the regular kitchen pots/pans and may result in a damage claim if they need to be replaced.

When using the wood stove, please remember to empty the Ash container so that air can get in.

First aid supplies available in the cabinet in the back bedroom.

What to bring:
-Water supply for washing and drinking
-18L water container for the water cooler
-Linens for queen beds
-Basic Toiletries
-Hygiene products
-Food
-extra wood
-fire starter and/or paper to start a fire

What to expect:

It is like tenting but with electricity, a bed to sleep in, and a kitchen to cook in. It is as clean as a 50 year old cabin with retro furniture can be. There may be dust and surfaces may need a quick wipe if it has been awhile since the last guest. If something needs tending to, please let us know and we will send someone in.

Note - in the winter, the ground freezes and the kitchen sink does not like to drain. Please dump water waste outside.
