This remote cottage in unspoilt North Cumbria is newly converted to a high standard. A beautifully light space, it is 5 miles from Hadrian's Wall, half an hour from the great border city of Carlisle and an hour to the Lakes.
The White Lyne River runs through the land, and has brown trout, if the otters have not got them first. There are hares and deer aplenty and many birds, snipe, curlew and oystercatchers.
It is a quiet retreat for friends to relax and take a break from the hectic modern day.

The space
The Lexi House is a newly converted cottage that has two bedrooms, a twin and a double, a very airy open living space, a well appointed kitchen and a bathroom with a shower over the bath. There are two fold out beds in the living space, a double and a single, but it would be a bit tight to use both.
The view out of the back is open fields, where visitors have seen deer, hares, and stoats. It sits at the end of a pebbled yard, but is not overlooked. There is a brilliant sun trap out the front, and a patio out at the back with the White Lyne river running below which is accessible by a track at the side of the main house. There are rumours of brown trout, but I have yet to see them.

Guest access
Guests have the complete run of the cottage, with plenty of parking space. The cottage is surrounded by an area of grass and wild flowers, which is available to guests.

Other things to note
There are two washing machines in an outside building, with a drying cupboard.

This is a remote part of the Borders, recently given the name of the Forgotten Lands. It is a tight knit community, going back many generations, and the names have remained much the same since reiving times. The reivers were brigands, back in the 15th & 16th centuries, that ranged over this land stealing cattle and carrying out murderous feuds. It was the most dangerous place in Europe at the time. Happily, now much more peaceful. It is largely unknown to the tourist industry and has a calm, spacious feel about it.

During your stay
There will normally be someone to greet you and settle you in. There will be some basic foods in the fridge/ freezer, but it's wise to bring in food for a couple of days so you don't have to go out. Also fill the car with petrol before leaving the nearest town!
