In Rua Margarida de Chaves, the Casa de Santa Margarida rises fresh and discreetly splendid. Going from generation to generation the House kept intact its soul and atmosphere, where they coexist in balance furniture and pieces from various periods of the decorative arts. The family that owns the property has been able to preserve the soul of this family home and, by transforming it into a Local Accommodation, intends to offer its guests the experience of living in the present time the splendor of times gone by.

The space
Very close to the historical center of the city of Ponta Delgada stands the Casa de Santa Margarida, secular property that has been in the possession of the same family since its construction (last quarter of the nineteenth century). It is on Rua Margarida de Chaves that the Casa de Santa Margarida rises in cool to grey and white with discreet splendour, named after the 'Venerable Matron Margarida de Chaves’, who lived in the middle of the 16th century and is ancestor of the family that owns the House. Passing from generation to generation the property has kept intact its soul and atmosphere with fin de siècle flavor, where coexist in extraordinary balance furniture and pieces representative of various periods of national and foreign decorative arts (from the eighteenth century to the present time). The family that owns the property knew how to preserve the soul of this family home and by transforming it into Local Accommodation intends to offer its guests the experience of living in the present times the splendor of times past, offering a harmonious reading of the various spaces of the house. Everything was thought up to the smallest detail, from selecting the color palette of the various divisions to choosing the original furniture that would remain on the property, in a decoration project by Architect Miguel Gonçalves. Objective: that our visitors feel like at home. Two suites, one in a shade of blue (accommodating up to four people) and the other green (accommodating 2 people) await visitors, who can live in the splendid dining room or in the property's Winter Garden if they do not prefer the privacy of the rooms that are intended for them. One last surprise is the garden. Safe from city views, the property hides a garden designed and built to the taste of the late 19th century gardens, where our guests can enjoy the tranquility of those who are away from the hustle and bustle of the city (despite the location in the historic center of Ponta Delgada). Here in equilibrium coexists the exuberance of the Azorean flora (sterlicias, roseirais and hygrângias) with subtropical flora (Dracaenas palms, Cycadaceas, azaleas, fetuses and several other species) that lend the place a palette of varied greens. This garden of aromas and colors is the ideal place to re-invigorate the energies after a day of discovery of the Island of S. Miguel, enjoying a glass of Azorean wine or even dining under the scent of the surrounding flora and with the background sound of frogs and birds…
