Welcome to the Doctor Gumbo Guesthouse! My wife and I have designed a super-fun, funky and family-friendly space for you to enjoy during your stay in one of the world's greatest cities: New Orleans!
Less than 10 minutes by car/Uber from the French Quarter, we are located right on historic Bayou St. John, a natural waterway popular among locals for kayaking, jogging, picnicking and more. Walk to many of the city's top restaurants, bars, parks and festivals (Jazz Fest, Voodoo Fest, and more)!
The space
Located in one of the most desirable areas of New Orleans, the Guesthouse puts you in the perfect position to explore the city. The owner also owns an internationally-recognized tour company focused on the history of food and cocktails in Louisiana, and can assist you in navigating through the city's vast and wonderful foodie scene. Additionally, the Guesthouse is equipped with all the comforts of home if you'd prefer to just stay in and chill like a local. The backyard is exceptionally spacious for the area, and has been designed for both playful kids and relaxing adults.
Guest access
Guests have access to the entire home and the spacious, lush backyard. Less than 200 ft (60m) away is the natural waterway, Bayou St. John, and we provide fold-out chairs and kayaks if our guests want to enjoy this local treasure.
Other things to note
We ask that guests respect the our neighbors by adhering to the quiet hours between 11p-7am.

Location
New Orleans, Louisiana, United States
Centrally located in New Orleans' oldest neighborhood (Faubourg St. John in Mid-City), the Guesthouse is just steps from the historic Bayou St. John, City Park, Jazz Fest, Mardi Gras' Endymion parade, Rock 'N' Roll Marathon, Crescent City Classic, with the streetcar, eateries, bars, coffee shops and grocery stores nearby.
With their tree-lined streets and avenues, gathering places, and landmarks, the Mid-City and Bayou St. John neighborhoods are decidedly more tranquil than their downtown counterparts. You're not likely to find "Huge-Ass Beers to Go" or music blaring out of every doorway here. Instead, you'll find a quieter charm in the gardens, galleries, and lagoons of City Park, in the cemeteries with their elaborately constructed tombs, and on the tree-shaded patios and decks of restaurants and cafés, where you can listen to the church bells keep time as you relax with a cold drink.
Above the French Quarter and below the lakefront, neither Uptown nor quite downtown, Mid-City embraces everything from massive, lush City Park to storefronts along gritty Broad Street. The neighborhood hosts more than a dozen festivals and celebrations a year, from block parties like the Bayou Boogaloo to grand-scale mega-events like the Voodoo Experience.
