AnTaigh Sgolie is a stone built former school converted into a cottage a number of years ago.
An Taigh Sgolie means Schoolhouse in Gaelic. The cottage lies in a quiet location in the centre of the island. The surrounding fields and loch are a haven for wildlife. It’s approximate one mile from the nearest beach. The cottage is a large one bedroom house, with a large lounge with an open fire and WiFi, well equipped kitchen and bathroom with shower over the bath. It has oil fired central heating.

The space
Tiree is the outmost of the Inner Hebrides. It can be reached by Calmac car ferry from Oban, and twice daily flights by Loganair from Glasgow Airport. Tiree has the longest hours of sunshine in the UK, and arguably some of the finest beaches in the world. It is almost entirely flat, is known as the land beneath the waves, and is ideal for amateur cyclists and walkers. The Island is approximately 12 miles long and 3 miles wide, can be very windy, and therefore doesn’t generally have a major midge problem. The island holds an annual Music festival and windsurfing wave classic, however the main attraction are the tranquillity, beauty, dramatic scenery and friendly islanders. Seafood, locally produced beef and lamb and new potatoes are specialities. Bikes and boats can be hired.

Where you’ll be

Heylipol, Scotland, United Kingdom

The island has a number of restaurants, and two hotels, and a coffee shop. Two small supermarkets provide a range of goods. The Skerrymore lighthouse is 12 miles from the Island and a museum provides details of this. There is a further island museum and a Broch at Vaul well worth visiting. It’s possible to arrange a rib boat trip to the Island of Iona, the spiritual home of Scotland, and Fingles Cave, made famous by Mendlesonn.
