Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Our modern earth home is a cozy, craftsman-built nest that treats its visitors to light, open space & color. It has a quiet, private setting with everything needed to make your stay comfortable &, hopefully, inspired.
The outdoors is this home's other half, creating an enveloping amphitheater of gardens, birds, trees & a hammock.
Beyond this private nest are 360 degree views of the Sangre de Christo Mountains, the Rio Grande Gorge, spectacular sunset displays & miles of walking & bike trails.

The space
This passive solar house was built by us, Abby & Dean, a ceramic artist & woodworker. All of the cabinets, doors & details were made by Dean; the pottery & tile by Abby (our studios are next door & we invite you to visit). The house is loosely based on the Earthship design developed by Taos architect Mike Reynolds. Although it is a rammed earth construction, and built four feet into the ground, it has the modern feel of a contemporary loft. Equipped with new appliances, a full kitchen, a Viking stove, laundry, Roku TV, games & art supples; and although it gets all of its electricity from the sun it is tied into the grid giving you consistent power.

Where you’ll be

El Prado, New Mexico, United States

We, Abby & Dean, moved to our neighborhood in 1998, two years after moving to Taos. The six mile stretch of Tune Drive only had seven houses on it, today there are over one hundred uniquely designed, alternative homes. Each has two & a half to five acre properties allowing the neighbors to enjoy the open land. Although we are in an area that has a very rural feel, we are only fifteen miles to the town of Taos. And equally intriguing is that exactly three miles north of us is a gorgeous hike down into the Rio Grande Gorge & to the Manby Hotsprings, OR, three miles south of us is great beer and live music at Taos Mesa Brewing - what could be better?

We, Abby and Dean, your hosts, are full-time artists living and working on the property. Abby is a ceramic artist and printmaker and Dean is a sculptor and furniture maker working in wood. We moved to Taos, from the midwest and New England, in 1996 and have built our home and passive solar studios to support our work as creative people. We have been self-employed for most of our careers and enjoy a lot of time in our studios. However, when not making art, we enjoy biking, skiing, hiking and camping in New Mexico and Colorado. We love travel and spending time with our families. We're excited about becoming hosts and sharing the home, we've built, with others.
