The Old Smithy was the original farm house built in the 18th Century. Completely renovated from derelict in 2002 and freshly redecorated in 2021, it boasts many of its original features; including the old fire range which will keep you warm on those winter nights (an initial basket of logs is F.O.C.)
Downstairs, sandstone flag floors and oak beamed ceilings are throughout.
A biomass boiler heats the cottage with timber sourced from the farm. Includes laundry, towels, heating and electricity.

The space
There is plenty of space to park, though please let us know if you and your party have more than 2 cars. Initial access is shared with the farm, but the lane directly to the cottage is only for the cottage and farmhouse so is kept clean and is safe.

Situated in the North Pennines AONB with the Pennine Way running just a few hundred metres away, the cottage is perfectly placed to walk up the fells from your door. 5 minutes further up the fellside you’ll find Cross Fell and The Northern Lake District is only 30 mins by car.
The nearest shops are 5 miles away in Appleby, but the local pub is 2 miles down the road in the picturesque village of Dufton.
Sited on a working farm, surrounded by countryside there is nowhere better to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Cumbrian countryside.
