3 nights minimum stay
We enjoyed our stay immensely - so much so, that we extended our stay by 2 nights! Sol Dorado has a very central location - Miguel's Moon Lite is a bar right next door, most nights there was a band playing classic tunes; On the other side, is a 24hr convenience store. Across the street you can rent a golf cart or a motorbike for 3 - 24hrs. Not to mention the very, almost too-conveniently located liquor store adjacent (word on this part of the island is that their prices are the best too). With the exception of the construction going on on the west-side of the building, starting at 8am 6 out of 7 days a week - just bring earplugs - the inner courtyard offered a very serene and surprisingly well sound-proofed barrier between the hotel and the lively surrounding area. Pia was very warm, welcoming and accommodating during our stay - we got the tour of the property, were shown our room, and were given a prompt "heads up!" when preventative measures were taking place to purposely make the coconut trees in the courtyard drop their fruit lol. We got to try one of these coconuts, and the water was some of the best I ever tasted! Pia also showed us the storage room where all sorts of useful and fun items to help you enjoy your stay can be borrowed. *Please enjoy our recent addition of a bocce set that we decided to leave behind ;-) The property is very safe as there is a locked gate at the entrance. If there was anything we needed during our stay, Marcelina, the Housekeeper, was around most days and very easy to communicate with despite our broken spanish and vice versa. We also enjoyed meeting the several other guests staying at the hotel - most guests were staying on a more long-term basis and you could tell that they considered Sol Dorado a home away from home. If you would like the convenience of being in the most central location on the island, but at the same time, have a little sanctuary to escape to, Sol Dorado has everything you need.
This is an ideal location, close to everything. Valentina's mom, Pia was very welcoming and friendly. As a long time visitor to the island, I did not ask too many questions, but she was available. A/C worked like a charm, but the best part was the secluded garden/patio with tables and hammocks outside the door. Steps from the center of town, it was a quiet private place for eating, reading, or having a nice siesta.
Pia was wonderful and waited for us until midnight when our flight was delayed in arriving. This place is in a great location with a well stocked kitchen. The wifi speed is great and we had purified water at no extra cost and hot water was always available. They also have a room with shareable bicycles, books, cards, beach umbrella, folding chairs, etc. Overall our stay was good, however they do have a few key points they need to fix. We had to ask for more purified water and toilet paper. They come check the towels daily but didn't check those or the trash (and they ask you to not flush your TP). There is mildew in #1's bathroom and it smelled badly, and that bed is very hard. #8 is a GREAT size with a huge comfy bed, but the AC in there was not working when my Mom stayed there. Mexico Divers sometimes talks loudly in the courtyard at 8am, so if they're still doing that, don't expect to sleep in. Also, the wifi access was intermittent, but they do have multiple providers and access points, so usually one was working somewhere in the area.
This is a lovely place to stay in the center of everything. Great family business. Very helpful hosts. Simply appointed and thoughtful design throughout this small apartment complex. There is a shady courtyard (with a turtle fountain :) and two different rooftop terraces for relaxing, sunning or star gazing. The kitchen was well equipped. Little features like extra hooks and nice shelves for storage are practical in design and make a more homey atmosphere. Good air conditioning that took about 5 minutes to get the room really cold. Not that you need it in August, but there is hot water in the shower. Beach chairs/umbrella were available to borrow along with some books in the little closet in the courtyard. Pia has nice stories about the history of Sol Dorado and the island. She also recommended some very good restaurants. I really appreciate Pascal helping getting me on the whale shark tour with Sea Hawk Divers. He was very conscientious about my overall experience and visit. Thanks again!!
