Sade (pronounced Sha-Day) is a modern French designed and built 35 feet fin keel cruising sloop with two small cabins aft and a larger V berth in the forward section. Sade's home base is in Langkawi and its cruising area is from Georgetown, Penang Malaysia to the south and as far north as Ranong at the Thai Burma border. For 2020, I’m planning on doing two trips to Krabi and one to Penang from mid February until end April. All trips are at a leisurely pace hopping from island to island.

The space
The space is the double V berth cabin which is suitable for up to two adults. I regularly cruise between Jan and May each year. Due to a limit of only two guests per voyage, please book early to avoid disappointment. A rough sailing itinerary will be posted by end September each year. For this ride share option, Sade presents a relaxed, affordable and flexible opportunity for anyone who wishes to build up sea miles or experience cruising on a small sailing boat in the tropics. Your primary reason however for staying with me is to experience living onboard a cruising boat. This is not a passenger transport service and destination is secondary and cannot be guaranteed depending on weather and other variables. Having said that you will never be too far away from where you wish to disembark as the sailing area is very well serviced by buses, taxis, songthaews, long tails, speedboats, ferries, etc. I have been sailing Sade in this area for the last 7 years and I have a practical knowledge of the Andaman coast line between Penang and Ranong and especially where safe and comfortable anchorages can be found for the night. I have a 100% safety record and I take the safety of the boat and everyone onboard very seriously. Having spent all my childhood years in Malaysia, guests will also benefit from my local knowledge of Malay, Chinese and Thai cultures.
A word of caution. Sade is a a small compact boat good for up to 4 small to average size people on a short passage. Anyone taller than 5'10" in the old scale may suffer a few head bruises. Getting to shore and back to the boat in rough weather can be a very wet and sometimes exciting experience. You need to be be reasonably fit and agile and able to lift up to 1/3 of your own body weight.

Telaga Marina on the SW corner of Langkawi is a peaceful spot with stunning sunsets and views of the craggy peaks that are a feature of the island. It’s remoteness from busy Kuah and touristy Cenang is an asset if you are looking for a more laid back kampong ambience to hang out for a few days to recharge.

For those interested in the Ride Share option, the sailing area is an area between Penang, Malaysia and Ranong, Thai-Burma border. See pics. Being onboard a sailing vessel, guests will have the opportunity to visit remote islands and anchorages not often visited by tourist operators. Pls note that there is often a charge for visits to some of the islands gazzetted as national and marine parks. This is not included in the daily tariff. It ranges from 200-400B pp.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist around being neat and tidy and putting things back in their proper place or at least where found. When I'm not sailing and not living onboard which accounts for half of each year, I spend my time between Perth Australia and Nice, SE France where I have a son and daughter respectively. During your stay

Sade is a small boat so if you need plenty of physical and personal space Sade may not be for you. A leaning deck while under sail may present challenges for some people as will getting in and out of a dinghy in a lumpy sea. Living in close quarters requires everyone to be sensitive to each other's need for personal space. While a positive attitude makes a big difference you must also be realistic about your own overall fitness and agility
