The quintessential lake house experience! Amazing sunsets, awesome swimming, great place to explore. Comfortable home. Wonderful place to create lifetime summer memories!

The space
Built circa 1890 as a private lodge, Hiawatha is one of the oldest camps on Mountain Lake, a small, quiet lake in the Southern Adirondacks. Situated 25 feet above the water on a sunny slope, Hiawatha is graced with gorgeous sunset views of the lake from its 4 bedrooms and from the living room and porch spanning its lakefront facade. A flight of steps leads from the deep, furnished porch of the traditional brown-shingled cottage to a 42-foot long stone-walled waterfront with a shallow, hard bottom, ideal for swimming.

Hiawatha has been lovingly maintained and recently renovated as a traditional three-season cottage charmingly decorated with comfortable camp furnishings. Vintage accessories and original art distinguish this pleasant, versatile living space. The bright, lake-view living room has freshly whitewashed cedar shingle walls and high, exposed-beam ceilings. New and antique classic cottage furniture, upholstered and painted in subtle leaf-greens and aquas, a sofa, love seat, comfortable reading chairs and cushioned wicker. Neutral, textural carpeting warms the room. The original river stone mantel is fitted with an ivory enameled gas fireplace, extending the vacation season into spring and fall. A dining table sits beneath a wide lakefront window; a folding games table & chairs can be set up for playing one of the classic board games. An entertainment armoire contains standard-service satellite TV with VCR and DVD, a stereo and a selection of CDs and videos. Wireless internet service is provided for your laptop.

The large kitchen is wonderful for a big family or two families vacationing together it has 2 stoves (one gas, one electric), 2 refrigerators and a double sink! Delicious local spring water for drinking is provided in a water cooler. A breakfast center is stocked with microwave, coffee maker, espresso machine, toaster and electric teapot. Other small appliances include a blender, popcorn popper, toaster oven, electric mixer and crock pot. Iron skillets, stainless pots and sharp knives make cooking a pleasure. Vintage and contemporary tableware including Jadeite and two full sets of dishes, one in cream & green and the other in a wild yellow rose pattern, set a charming table. A CD stereo/radio provides music. A stainless gas grill with stove top burner is located just outside the kitchen door, with a lake view.

The full bathroom, also on the first floor, includes a vanity sink and a tub with shower. A hairdryer, iron and ironing board are provided.

The 4 upstairs bedrooms are furnished with vintage metal beds and antique dressers. The three Lake-view bedrooms have queen beds. The 4th bedroom, with a full bed and 2 built-in bunks for small children, has a high window offering privacy with a partial water view.

The queen sleeper-sofa in the living room provides an additional bed. Deluxe bedding for Hiawatha includes down comforters, feather pillows, fleece blankets, and charming vintage bedspreads.

You provide sheets, pillowcases and towels, or rent ours for an additional fee.

With a generous dock on a beautiful stone-terraced waterfront, Hiawatha is a comfortable and well-furnished base for water sports and outdoor activities. Life here centers on the water, with much of the activity taking place on the houses ample porch and dock, furnished with all-season wicker and teak, including a dining table, Adirondack chairs and steamer chaises. Lattice on a side wall of the porch and hemlock hedges provide privacy.
