Originally stables, the cottage has been converted to one-up-one-down self-catering accommodation. With a double bed, shower, washing machine, sofa-bed and fully equipped kitchen. 10 min walk from station, and very close to the shops, cafes etc. There is usually space to park a car on the drive, but be aware that the entrance is a bit narrow. If you come in an electric car we can find a 13A plug for you to charge up.

The space
The cottage is around 200 years old and was originally the stables for our house. The open plan lounge/kitchen/diner on the ground floor has a sofa-bed, table and chairs, an electric oven/hob, microwave, kettle, fridge, toaster (plus starter kit of tea, coffee and sugar) and a selection of books and board games. Stairs up to open-plan bedroom with double bed and bathroom en-suite. Sleeps 2 (plus 2) - please ask when booking as we have to limit the number of households due to COVID restrictions.

Where you’ll be

Machynlleth, Powys, United Kingdom

Set in the heart of rural mid-Wales (the land of daffodils and dragons!), Machynlleth is a lovely historic market town with a population of about 2,000.
In the town (a 2 minute walk) there are: several cafes and pubs; a wholefood shop; a couple of supermarkets and lots of antique shops. Also a leisure centre (swimming pool, squash courts, bowls rink, fitness suite and sports hall) and an outdoor playground. Notably, apart from the supermarkets, all the shops are ‘independently’ owned. Market day is on Wednesday.

There is a fair bit of live music in town - in the pubs and at the Tabernacle. There are also a few drop-in activities to participate in e.g. Table Tennis and Board Games (both once a week) if you want to know more about these please ask us. Machynlleth also hosts a variety of festivals and other annual events.

We have lived in and around Machynlleth since 1982 and love the area and the people. Having worked at the Centre for Alternative Technology for 30 years we are strong advocates of renewables, recycling, organic gardening etc. We have a large organic garden and grow as much veg as we can. We enjoy meeting people from different countries and cultures, and also like to travel using Airbnb when we can. We like playing board games and have started a board games club (which meets weekly) in one of the local pubs, and have built up quite a nice collection of interesting board games. John plays the trumpet in the Machynlleth Wind band and in a variety of bands.
