We offer you a special little cottage, built on the farm nearly a century ago, and carefully and lovingly restored by the present owners. The cottage is close to the main farm buildings of the farm Tiger's Lair, 20 km southeast of Aranos, a remote town in the southeast of Namibia. We promise you peace and contentment on a working farm, with sheep, cattle and Arabian horses, with miles and miles of beautiful red sand dunes and camel thorn trees typical of the Kalahari.

The space
A small cottage with two rooms, a kitchenette for self-catering and a bathroom. One room is private, with two single beds and a cupboard. The second room is part of the open plan kitchen area, with two single beds, but not completely private (See photographs). The separate bathroom has a shower and a bathtub. The private bedroom has air conditioning for the warm summers.

The well equipped kitchen has a small fridge with freezer space, a small microwave oven and an electrical frying pan. Coffee, tea, fresh farm milk and homemade rusks will be provided. The herb garden is available for guests to harvest for themselves as needed. Guests may buy braai packs from the farmer or dinner can be arranged with hostess, especially in winter. It is advised that guests come prepared with everything else they need to cater for their own needs. Windhoek has good shops and shopping malls, and two shops in Aranos town may also provide the basics. The farm has a large walk in freezer if you need more space for frozen food.

An outside patio area is perfect for a barbecue in the evening, and the stars of the dark Kalahari night sky will have you speechless. Wood will be provided at no extra costs. Enjoy your meals outside underneath the veranda while you can watch the birds and farm animals.

In summer time, the small cement farm dam is the ideal place to cool down.

Our dogs have the run of the farm and will definitely pay you a visit. Please do not invite them into the cottage.

Where you’ll be

Aranos, Hardap Region, Namibia

The cottage is on a working farm, a part of the farm buildings which include garages, storerooms, a laundry room and different barns, all in use for farm work. A light fence surrounds the buildings. You may wake up early to the sounds of birds, sheep and horses coming down to drink water, the dogs barking excitedly, for the farmer is starting his day. The dogs have all been trained to herd sheep, and it is a pleasure to observe their tactics.
The farm buildings have been built on the solid banks of the Nossob River, but the red dunes of the Kalahari, a semi-arid desert are just over the ridge. Guests will not be able to drive into the dunes on their own, but walking around is encouraged. The farmer negotiates the dunes in a specially adapted four-track vehicle, and guests might be invited to hop on the back for a tour of the farm where you might see Springbuck and even the majestic Oryx. Smaller animals like porcupines, aardvark and smaller cats may also be spotted on walks. Look out for the huge weaver bird nesting colonies in the beautiful camel thorn trees.
