In a stunning setting, nestling at the foothills of the marvellous Malvern Hills in the heart of Castlemorton Common, the Retreat barn provides luxury accommodation for those wishing to get away from it all to rest, relax and revive…
Watch the sun set over the hills, or enjoy clear night skies and hooting owls, all from the comfort of your own private deck with your own wood fired hot tub, or snuggle up by the wood burner with a good book. The perfect spot for a romantic get away for two.

The space
The Retreat Barn offers boutique accommodation in the heart of the Malvern Hills. It’s a very quiet and relaxing place, surrounded by the common, perfect for a romantic getaway. It is perfect walking country and we allow one well behaved dog (sorry no puppies), to stay. It's very easy to travel with your dog with so many lovely local eateries allowing dogs to dine with you.
The building has been converted with comfort in mind, but also character. Surrounded by stunning countryside, in an area of outstanding natural beauty, you’ll find the Retreat Barn tucked away up a stone track in the heart of Castlemorton Common.
With everything on one level, (ground floor), the property is heated by oil central heating, along with a woodburner.

The Retreat kitchen is well equipped with everything you need should you feel inspired to whip up a feast.
The kitchen contains a larder fridge, (no ice box), oven with ceramic hob and grill and a microwave. We can provide ice for your pre hot tub drinks, just ask if we are about and we can leave a jug on your doorstep!

The Barn contains a Nespresso coffee machine, along with coffee pods. We also provide the basics; salt & pepper, tea bags, coffee and sugar.
We’ve provide a wide range of cooking utensils, pots and pans, crockery, glasses and cutlery so you can whip up a feast or lazy brunch.

Catch up with your favourite radio station, with the Pure radio found in your kitchen, or simply Bluetooth your phone so you can enjoy your own playlist.

Curl up by the warmth of the woodburner in the cosy armchairs, and finally take the time to finish that book, or enjoy a game of Scrabble or chess. We will provide you with a basket of wood a day as well as firelighters and matches.

The Bedroom

In your Scandinavian inspired bedroom you’ll find yourself being lulled to sleep by the hooting owls, and the wind blowing through the trees. Breathe in the fresh country air and enjoy a sound nights sleep.

Perfect for couples, you can have the option of a generous Super King bed or two cosy singles. (Just let us know when booking if you want the bed made up as singles). Your bed will be made up with luxurious organic cotton bed linen and a snuggly warm duvet.

The Retreat Barn has a generous ensuite shower room , equipped with a heated towel rail, and cosy bath linen. It also has a very handy heated boot and coat dryer, so you can dry out your boots after a day walking in the Malvern Hills. Perfect if the weather is a tad bit British!

We also provide you with organic shower gel, hand soap and loo paper. we have a hand sanitiser dispenser in the entrance hall to the barn.

Please note that there is strictly no smoking, inside or outside the property as there is a lot of wood!.

Telephone and Wifi

It’s very easy to switch off and unplug from the world when you are ensconced in the hills, but we do appreciate that sometimes you still need access to the outside world.
We provide free wifi so you can pick up your emails. Unfortunately the BT infrastructure in our location is a bit outdated and we don’t yet have access to super fast fibre, but you will find the connection sufficient for picking up and sending emails if you do need to work whilst you are away, and we provide Freeview tv so you can enjoy keep abreast of the outside world and favourite tv shows.

We are in the middle of nowhere (!) so mobile reception is a bit patchy, but you can usually pick up a signal just outside the entrance gate.

The Deck

The private deck at the back of the lodge overlooks the garden, with the Malvern Hills in the distance. It has a table and chairs for you to enjoy your morning coffee from, or you can sit back and enjoy the star filled skies at night. The wood fired hot tub is on the deck and you can access it straight from your accomodation. There is a second deck area set in the gardens so you can ensure you get the last of the suns rays.

Enjoy your own private hot tub on the cedar deck looking out at the Malvern Hills. Relax and unwind in the warm waters of our Scandinavian wood fired hot tub, and enjoy the spectacular views across the garden with the hills beyond. A bit like slow food, a wood fired hot tub is an experience to savour. The only bubbles will be in your drink, as you and your loved one enjoy a romantic evening star gazing, whilst the logs crackle in the wood burner, and the steam gently swirls and rises into the night air.

We will provide enough wood for you to use the hot tub once a day, and if you decide you want to use it more you can purchase additional logs at a cost of £5 per bag. It is solely for your use during your stay. We can help with lighting it if required, (we do provide a how to guide as well), and the lovely thing about wood fired chemicals is that no nasty chemicals need to be used as we fill it with fresh water.

We love dogs and you are welcome to bring one well behaved dog over the age of 12 months with you for a small charge £25. This is charged as a supplement and must be paid before arrival. Please do read our doggy rules and regulations on our website before you book to avoid any misunderstandings. We ask that no dogs are left alone in the property as they can get stressed with so much wildlife wandering past the window, (squirrels and pheasants are the main culprits!).

You can choose a leisurely walk around the Golden Valley pond, or a more energetic hike up the Hills. Eating Out

If you feel like leaving the cosy comfort of the Barn, we have several excellent country pubs and eateries nearby, who serve delicious, locally sourced food.

The stylish Inn at Welland is our favourite. Less than 10 minutes away you are guaranteed a warm welcome and great food.

Pop to the Swan at Hanley for roaring fires, friendly locals and a fantastic meal in the bar or conservatory.

If you are after somewhere to celebrate a special occasion why not try Verzon House, just the other side of Ledbury. Enjoy their own wine, gin and vodka, along with some delicious locally sourced food.

The Yorkshire Grey pub just outside Upton offers great value for money, and uses a lot of local produce in there menus.

Faun in Malvern is a great place to have a leisurely brunch, pick up some delicious bread whilst you are there.

We do advise booking any of theses local eateries to avoid disappointment.

We also have one great Thai restaurant locally in Colwall, and the Sitara in Lebury offers modern Indian cuisine.

The Ledberry in Ledbury is another great option for lunch if you fancy exploring this beautiful town.

If you pop just outside Ledbury you can pick up some delicious Scotch eggs from the Nest. Perfect for a ploughmans or a picnic.

Places to visit

If you decide to give your walking boots a rest for the day there are several local vineyards, cider and gin distilleries that offer tours and tastings.
From the very local Lovells vineyard in Welland, to the stunning Three Choirs Vineyard where you can be forgiven for thinking you are in France or Italy on a sunny afternoon.

Or take a tour around Westons Cider museum, or learn more about the art of gin making at Chase Distillery.

Malvern Theatre, less than 20 minutes away, hosts many a top class performance before or after a West End debut, and they also offer an interesting selection of films in their cinema.
There are events all year round at the Three Counties showground, and we provide a great location if you are exhibiting or visiting.

Just over the hill from us Eastnor Castle is well worth a visit. Check out their website for seasonal events from firework displays to the fun Chilli festival. They are also home to the Landrover Experience, where you can enjoy an off road track day in the hills behind the estate, a really great adrenaline fuelled way to spend a day.

There are several beautiful National Trust properties in the area that are all worth visiting, including Croome Court, Berrington Hall and Brockhampton Estate.

After a shopping fix? The Regency town of Cheltenham is close by, or for a more local feel visit the black and white market town of Ledbury, with a thriving independent shopping scene and weekly farmers market.

Fancy getting on your bike? You can hire mountain bikes from us, or bring your own. From thrilling mountain biking in the hills, to meandering country lanes it’s great cycling country. For every hill you climb there are some fun downhill runs to catch your breath!

Not forgetting this is a great area to enjoy all things equine. Cheltenham Races is a great day out, or pop over to Hereford or Ludlow for some racing fun.

I'm a mum of one energetic boy, plus a gaggle of Frenchies. I teach Mat & Reformer Pilates from the Retreat Studio next door to the Barn. I also enjoy travelling but there is definitely no place like home and it's always good to get back to our bolthole in the hills.
