'The Barrens,' is a Victorian Sea Captain's home in the heart of Plymouth's waterfront district overlooking piers, restaurants, historic sites. Our Anchor Suite has 2 twin beds, a small couch, full bath, TV, mini-fridge, and microwave.
All suites are on the second floor of our home, with a private, key-pad entrance.

The space
In Plymouth terms this is a relatively 'young' home: an 1845 Grand Victorian (just shy of 175 years old) that has been updated with technology and conveniences but retains its period charm. Our second floor guest area also features a sun room and library/lounge where free coffee is dispensed through a Keurig machine. The library, by the way, is full of many unique volumes dedicated to our local and regional environment.

What a neighborhood! A ten minute walk to the Forefathers Monument on Allerton, a 90-second walk to Pilgrim Hall Museum. Look out over our back fence at the Hedge House, headquarters of the Plymouth Antiquarian Society. Walk a block and you're staring at our whale watch fleet. Oh and yes, that's Mayflower II, the Plymouth Rock, beautiful Brewster Gardens on historic Town Brook. Not to mention several dozen restaurants, the Spire Center (concerts and theatre), 13 Tercentenary monuments, craft breweries, restaurants (from Korean to Thai to Italian to classic New England fried fish and lobster houses... We could go on.. Well, maybe we will a little. Five minutes away are four fabulous historical sites: the 1820 Courthouse (just renovated and now linked to Plymouth's new town hall); Town Square where the head of Metacomet was once displayed, the 1749 Courthouse where John Adams once practiced law still stands and the First Church (being renovated) houses three restored Tiffany windows and, rising up behind the square, Burial Hill...

I am a dedicated environmentalist, with a growing knowledge (and concern) for the unique ecosystem within which the historic community of Plymouth resides - the Atlantic Coastal Pine Barrens. I am very involved in my community, which the local Chamber of Commerce refers to as "America's Hometown." That could be hyperbole, but our history, the mark the Pilgrims and their descendants made on America (there are now (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) million descendants of the original passengers on the Mayflower), and the importance of the Mayflower Compact on the development of democracy in America, suggests that at the very least Plymouth deserves its place in the history books. And modern Plymouth deserves a place on your travel itinerary. 36 miles of coastline, a state forest, a revived downtown with dozens of restaurants, entertainment venues and attractions makes this more than a stop-over between Boston and Cape Cod. Plymouth is worth an extended stay and The Barrens (my Grand Victorian AirBnB) is perfectly situated to enjoy the history, the night life, the scenic beauty and, I hope, our beautiful forests, ponds and rare species.
