Where you’ll be

Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan

The neighborhood, we think is the most indicative of what life is like if you were to live in Kyoto. There are many shrines and temples within biking or walking distance, but it is not a tourist type of neighborhood. Regular friendly folks, lots of students, since we are close to Kyoto University.
When it is a hot day we walk two blocks over to the fork of the Kamogawa and Takano river to be close to the water and have a picnic under a tree. There, if you like, you can always meet some Japanese students who are happy to interact with you. A chance for you to use that Japanese you have been studying and a chance for them to practice their English, Spanish or French.
And of course there is lots of public transportation near by; bus, subway, and a little train that takes you to a cable car that will fly you to the top of the mountain or take you to a small mountain village with "onsen" (outdoor soaking baths). We like our neighborhood and think it is the best in Kyoto
