Pacific Palisades: the very best of both worlds! A small town feel, yet part of the second largest city in the United States – perfectly situated between Santa Monica in the south and Malibu to the north. The person who could not fall in love with the Palisades has never yet been born. Our lovely English cottage, nestled in the Palisades bluffs is the perfect getaway.

The space
The accommodation boasts an excellent location, 11 miles from LAX, 3 miles from Santa Monica with its pier, promenade, multiple shops, restaurants and theatres.

This is a gorgeous studio, set in the garden of a private house. Reliable Internet connection is provided for your convenience. There is a full bath with tub and shower, shampoo, conditioner and hair dryer. An iron and ironing board are also provided.

There is a modest kitchenette complete with microwave and refrigerator. Light snacks are provided on your arrival. Coffee and a variety of teas are included.

There is a queen-size bed and a single bed, both with medium- firm mattresses. Sleep soundly, knowing that all our mattresses and pillows are covered in hypoallergenic safety covers. There is an adequate supply of sheets, down - style comforters, generous pillows, and large towels for beach days. There are racks to provide adequate hanging space for clothes.

The studio looks onto a pleasing English garden, complete with pond and waterfall. There is a secluded patio where you can enjoy breakfast or early morning coffee. There are plenty of tables and chairs if needed.

The neighborhood is quiet and safe, with unrestricted street parking. From the bluffs one can see all the way from Palos Verdes in the south to Malibu in the north. On clear days, Catalina Island (once the preserve of the Wrigley chewing gum family!) is clearly visible.

Enthusiastic hikers may enjoy walking along footpaths from the bluffs to Pacific Coast Highway. The trek is about 20-25 minutes to the sea-side. There is a lighted crosswalk to the beach which holds its opportunities for swimming, sunbathing and surfing. For those who care not to hike, the beach is best approached by car, or car service (Uber or Lyft); about a 5 min ride.

Pacific Palisades Village is less than a mile from the cottage. For those who have come to relax, the stores are adequate. Avid shoppers may need to go further afield. Only just recently completed, a new development brings more stores, restaurants, and five movie theatres to the Village. Running through the Village is one of the most famous of all American streets, Sunset Boulevard. Arising in the heart of old Los Angeles, the Boulevard ends where it merges with Pacific Coast Highway, itself famous for majestic scenery as it runs through Santa Barbara, Big Sur, Pebble Beach, Carmel and San Francisco, in its march towards the Canadian border.

North of Sunset Boulevard as it traverses our precious Village, lie the Santa Monica Mountains. As a result of generous donors and the herculean efforts of generations of visionaries, land has been saved from developers, so it is now possible to hike continuously along trails encompassing the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area. Check out Temescal Canyon, and Will Rogers Park.

Los Angeles is a necklace, linking numerous pearls of great price. Los Angeles has these in profusion – world class entities such as the Getty Museum which hold amazing treasures from Greco-Roman antiquities to van Gogh’s “Irises”. To see books more than 500 years old, visit the Huntington Library and its fabulous gardens. For something even older visit the La Brea tar pits where to this day bones of mammoths and sabre tooth tigers are being excavated. Is Disneyland really “the happiest place on earth”? While you are in L.A., why not check it out! Universal Studios will unlock some of the secrets of movie-making, for which this city is justly famous. You won’t have time to do everything while you are here, but tell us what interests you. Perhaps we can tell you where to look.

In common with much of the Western United States we have had a severe and prolonged drought. We hope for rain, but we still have to conserve water. With this in mind, perhaps the songs you elect to sing in the shower could have shorter verses!

Detached private guesthouse with private bath and private garden patio is great for long term OR short term stays!

Tree lined neighborhood with plenty of free street parking.

Guest access
Access to huge garden with iron artifacts, pond, many varieties of flowers. Guests can enjoy their own private guesthouse, private patio, and surrounding garden as well as a stunning view of the ocean from the top of our driveway.

Long term guests have access to vacuum, mop broom, plastic garbage bags, should they choose to freshen up their own room. Professional cleaning is also available by appointment at the rate of $75

Other things to note
We are currently undergoing a major spring cleaning; unfortunately that has gone on a bit longer than expected.
: ( Please excuse a few extra boxes and things around on the driveway and on our own patio area as we try to pair down the stuff we have collected over the years.

In addition, here in Los Angeles we have been undergoing a drought. For the most part, conscientious Palisad-ians have limited the watering of their gardens. We are no exception. Please excuse the condition of our grass as we wait for rain.

On a similar note; please try to keep your showers to a reasonably shorter time frame.

Parents with children are responsible for child safety around our backyard pond.

Cigarette smoking is discouraged but can be done on the patio nearest the guest house. Please no drugs of any kind on the property. And we prefer you vape elsewhere. Thank you.

Parking: Please park on the street only and not in driveway.

Amenities: Please leave the room as you found it; leaving behind hangars, cups, silverware, towels, etc. This way no extra fee is charged to you and future guests may also enjoy these amenities that we provide.

***For fastest and best service it is preferable to send your questions and concerns through the Airbnb messaging system provided here, this way we will respond right away. ***

Lucie Pearl Conolly Born in Buenos Aires, raised in the United Kingdom, and, for 41 years a resident of California. Proud citizen of the United States, Los Angeles has been the home in which she raised her three sons. In addition to raising her family, for many years she worked as a school teacher. Now that all three of our sons are back in the Golden State, California is definitely home. These days retired from teaching, she loves to give hospitality. Living in one of the great cross road cities of the world, she has entertained people from everywhere, and expects that Airbnb will bolster that tradition. Matthew Conolly Born in England, educated from primary school through medical school in the London area, but spent a year and a half on post-doctoral research at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. There his growth in both medical science and Country and Western Music were stimulated. He then returned to England, married Lucie Pearl, and started a family. “There is a tide in the affairs of men” so goes the saying “which taken at the flood leads on to. . .” – in our case, California, and how exciting California has been – silicon valley, electric cars, (Hidden by Airbnb) , Space-X, pharmaceutical research! The list goes on and on. Our family has grown and spread, but after a period of more than 20 years, all three of our sons now once again live in California, making the Golden State most definitely home!!
