This modern, clean cottage is a 3mi drive to downtown Highlands, the Old Edwards Inn, and great restaurants!

It has a living area, kitchenette (tiny under the counter fridge, no stove or oven), 1 bed/1 ba with a tiled, walk-in shower. Completely renovated, the space is very clean, with heat and air conditioning.

Need a full kitchen or more space? This cottage shares the land with our 2 bed/2Ba rental home, see "The Brit’s Bear Pond Getaway".

We disinfect & space arrivals 2 days apart.

The space
This modern, clean, private cottage is across a foot bridge and shares the land with our larger 2 bed/2ba rental property. Search here on Airbnb for "The Brit’s Bear Pond Getaway"

The two are separated by a pond and are not right next to each other - so you are not on top of each other but a short stroll away.

We are about 2.3 miles from downtown Highlands but it is not walkable as there are no sidewalks. Once you cross the bridge, a very short walk will take you to the guesthouse, easily recognized by its orange front door :).

There is a lily pad and frog-filled pond with a small stream (normally has water but not always) and woods around the entire property. We find it very peaceful here and typically with very moderate temperatures.

Easy access is off of Webbmont and Franklin roads.

WINTER WARNING: It does snow up here! And, just like the good ole ATL, we have NO SNOW REMOVAL AVAILABLE. If there is a winter storm, it's likely the road will be impassable. And, like all other humans, we can't control the weather... So, if your reservation is during a snow event, it's likely we'll be without power or access, so we will give you a full refund.

The area is full of rhododendrons and mountain Laurel and is known to be visited by a bear or two or three. #BeNoisy #LeaveNoFoodInYourCar

The interior is open and light-filled. The kitchenette offers a microwave, small under the counter refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster and sink. (There is no stove or cooktop.)

The bedroom is freshly appointed with a queen bed and ample room for your belongings.

If you live and die by internet and/or television, this is not the place for you. We have “high-speed” internet service, however it’s all that Northland Communications can do to keep it up and running. We’ve lost track of how often we’ve called them. It is nearly non-existent here on many days.

We do not have cable or live TV, just Netflix and Hulu, but again, all depends on our very iffy internet.

Both AT&T and Verizon have cell service in the area. Our experience is with AT&T and we typically get 1-2 “bars”. There’s been times when we have no cell service although not often. People who live in the area say Verizon works best but we can’t say first hand if that is the case.

We welcome and appreciate house-trained, well-behaved dogs. Because we don’t charge a pet fee, we ask guests with dogs to please ensure the cottage is left free of pet hair and waste so the cleaning service isn’t spending extra time getting the house in the same pristine condition you found it in. :)

We require owners to report and pay for any damages to the house or grounds. Due to allergies, we do not allow cats, hamsters, rats, mice, guinea pigs or exotic pets such as reptiles, rodents, pot belly pigs or birds. The net is - if it’s not a well-behaved human or a dog, it can’t stay here :)...

We do close down from Jan until the middle of March because we are on a private heavily treed road which can become impassable due to winter storms as outlined above.

Where you’ll be

Highlands, North Carolina, United States

We are just 2.5 miles from downtown Highlands. The quiet Webbmont neighborhood is filled with huge, beautiful homes (we're the small fry on the block :>) and a community garden. Horses and even a donkey live on the corner of Webbmont and Hammond Road.

Cool shopping and great eateries!

Also, our favorite eatery - the Veranda restaurant - is just over a mile away.

Dry Falls and Bridal Veil are both very close for you outdoorsy hiking types :>

Hi! Susan here. I grew up in Danville, IL, and loved everything about it but winter is a little tough here. My husband, Steve is originally from the UK and so understands what winter is all about. Our rentals are in Highlands, NC, called "The Brit's Highlands Hideaway and The Brit's Bear Pond Getaway", and in Destin, FL, "Destin Townhouse on the Harbor". I We hope that our guests have a pleasant stay wherever their travels take them. We love hosting and try to make our properties places you'll want to come back to! We share our home with two Golden "Receivers", named as such as they will catch a ball thrown to them but not return it, hence, receiver and not retriever :) Two miniature Dachshunds also allow us to hang out in order to cater to their every whim. Thank you for considering making our home your home, even if for just a little while.
