Beautiful scenery, 360 Degree views, as every wall has 2 windows with a view! Simple, comfortable and cozy surroundings. Enjoy the sunset each night and the night sky with a spectacular vantage point for star gazing. Opportunities to walk, jog, bike, kayak, canoe, bird watch, collect beach glass, go crabbing and more, just steps from your door.
Early risers will have a different set of views to enjoy, as the watermen begin bringing back their days catch, and the water glistens as the sun begins to rise. Every window offers a different view, depending on the time of day.
Huge yard ends at the BAY, with a huge fire pit, benches and chairs to enjoy the view. Play badminton, horseshoes, fly kites, etc. or just sit by the bay, watching the sunset and the cruise ships pass by. During the day, sit and watch the nesting ospreys near the front of the property. Front dock with a ladder and small boat lift for putting your small craft into the Honga River, so bring your kayaks and canoes! There is a public dock to launch your larger watercraft, and then use our dock to “park” during your stay.
Kitchen herbs for your cooking pleasure are right outside your door. Within walking distance of crab picking houses for FRESH just picked crab for your culinary creations. Or buy or catch fresh crabs to cook your way, we provide small crab pots for you to try crabbing from our dock & steamer to cook them in!
Sorry, pets are not allowed, although in the future, we would like to offer a "kennel" in our shed for your furry family member, and will post updates when that becomes a reality. We try to keep the Haven allergen free for our guests.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT AT HOOPERS ISLAND BAYSIDE HAVEN?
The Bayside Haven is a truly "get away from it all" location, we do not provide internet access nor cable TV. We do have plenty of DVDs and some local & network TV stations. The Haven has AC, and a ceiling fan. Windows on every wall (8) for plenty of sunlight and catching a breeze…very comfortable!
If you need to stay connected, you must bring your smart phone and/or patronize either the Hoopers Island General Store (formerly Island Pride) or Old Salty's to use their internet. But really...traveling out here encourages you to unplug for a little while, enjoy the scenery, the wildlife and the simplicity...the sunsets are amazing, you may notice others pulling out their chairs around "sunset" time, as they all admire the views, the ships going by, and the fabulous birds flying by or swimming in the water . We often have our neighbors over and enjoy it together. Old Salty's is our local (within walking distance) seafood restaurant, where you can meet the locals as well as the folks that drive from various parts of the Eastern Shore to eat here. We have crisp cool 400 count 100% Cotton linens, organic and/or made in the USA when we can find them. We steam clean all soft surfaces (pillows, mattresses, cushions, etc.) between guests, to keep down the allergens and just to offer you a comfortable stay. All bedding is encased in bug proof, allergen free materials. We are picky about where we stay, and apply these standards to our vacation rentals as well.
You may rent kayaks/canoes or go on a charter fishing boat tour, or just a scenic tour, right on the island. The land is flat, perfect for biking or going for a long walk from bridge to bridge.
Free TRASH REMOVAL is NOT provided on the Island. You may either remove it yourself when you check out or pay $25 to have it removed. Your choice :) “Cleaning Fee” is refunded when you remove it yourself. We expect you to leave The Haven as you found it.
Interaction with guests
We have two vacation rentals and live in our B & B in Philadelphia, so we rotate our time between the three properties. We strive to allow you to use the property exclusively whenever possible.
If we are on site, we have a separate entrance and separate outdoor deck, to stay out of your way. We happily try to answer any questions you have, but will not intrude upon your stay.
We DO provide you with a list of Island "handy people," who are also our friends, should you need their help immediately.
Other things to note
Dorchester County Lodging Tax of 5% is included on this rate, as Airbnb is not able to collect tax through their system. 3rd person requires an extra $25 per night. Stays during Events/Holidays are an additional $75 per stay. A REFUNDABLE trash removal fee of $25 is charged, if you choose not to remove trash yourself. Hoopers Island Residents do not receive free trash removal. Let us know when booking whether you will choose this option.
The following will be sent to you upon confirmation of your reservation. Payment indicates acceptance of this agreement. PHOTO ID REQUIRED OF GUEST immediately after booking and Names of all guests and ages of any guests under 25.
SHORT TERM RENTAL AGREEMENT
This Short Term Rental Agreement (the “Agreement") is made by and between Stephen and Deborah Richter (“Homeowner") as of the date set forth by Airbnb booking invoice. For good and valuable consideration, the sufficiency of which is acknowledged, the parties hereby agree as follows:
1.Property. The property is located at: Hoopers Island Rd, Fishing Creek, MD 21634
The property is furnished and includes a fully furnished 2nd Floor Studio Apartment (One Queen Bed, One Full Futon), including kitchen, living room, bed linens, towels, beach chairs, and more as per inventory document provided at the Haven. Furnished private patio and shared screened in porch.
2.Rental Party: The rental party shall consist of Guest and the following persons:
(THIS IS REQUIRED BY Our Insurance) Names of each guest and ages of any guest under 25.
3. Maximum Occupancy: The maximum number of guests is limited to 3 persons. Additional charge of $25/per night for 3rd guest (Total 3 MAX) is assessed, only upon written agreement from the homeowner.
4. Term of the Lease: Check in (4pm) Date: Check Out (11am) Date:
5. Rental Rules: Guest agrees to abide by the Rental Rules attached as Exhibit A at all times while at the property and shall cause all members of the rental party and anyone else Guest permits into the property to abide by the following rules at all times while at the property.
6. Access: Guest shall allow Homeowner access to the property for purposes of repair and inspection. Homeowner shall exercise this right of access in a reasonable manner.
7. Fees & Security Deposit : A Security Deposit ($200)/Trash Removal Fee ($25) is and shall be refunded within 14 days of check out, provided no expenses are necessary due to:
•Damage to the property or furnishings;
•Dirt or other mess requiring excessive cleaning @ $30 per hour over the 3 hours allotted for turnover.
•Neglecting Check Out Procedures (Basic household chores detailed in “Check Out" provided to guest and failure to separate trash/recycling if not removed by guest.
•Any other cost incurred by Homeowner due to Guest's stay
If the premises appear dirty or damaged upon Check-in, Guest shall inform Homeowner immediately.
8. Payments & Cancellation Policy: Follows policies outlined in by Airbnb.
9. The parties agree to the terms of this Short Term Rental Agreement, by booking through Airbnb.
10. Guest will send photo of Government ID within 24 hours of booking. This assures us that YOU are indeed YOU
RENTAL RULES (Rules & Check In/Out Procedures are present at the Haven at all times)
1.SMOKING: Smoking is PROHIBITED at HIBH, on front porch or back patio. Violation of this rule may lead to eviction and a loss of the security deposit.
2.GUEST OCCUPANCY: People other than those in the Guest party set forth above may not stay overnight in the property, unless approved in writing by Owners and payment of guest fee. Any other person in the property is the sole responsibility of Guest. HIBH may not be sublet.
3.LIABILITY: HIBH is privately owned; the owners are not responsible for any accidents, injuries, or illness that occurs while on the premises or its facilities. The Homeowners are not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guest. By accepting this reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or others whom they invite to use the premise.
4.APPLIANCES: Read directions for electronics, appliances, and only use for their intended purposes. Small appliances and the grill are there for the guest's convenience. If damaged, they will be replaced as soon as it is convenient for the owner. Cleaning the grill is the responsibility of the guest.
5.HOUSEKEEPING: There is no daily housekeeping service. Linens, bath towels and some beach towels are included. Please do not remove bath towels or linens from the cottage. Guests are responsible for normal housekeeping as well as the check out tasks listed. HIBH to be returned by Guest in clean, sanitary rentable condition or pay costs of same. (See Check Out)
6.ENERGY: Turn off lights, appliances, air conditioners, etc. when leaving the house, we try to be as energy efficient and appreciate your cooperation. The Haven is of a “vintage" nature; take care not to run the small appliances, hair dryer, etc. at the same time.
7.RECYCLING & TRASH: Bring home with you to save the Trash Removal fee of $25. Make sure trash is closed securely when placed in bins provided. Place clean/rinsed recycling in appropriate bin, single stream recycling. Ants are prevalent by the bay, remove indoor trash to covered trashcans outdoors as soon as possible.
8.LAUNDRY: Towels, bathing suits, etc., may be hung on the outdoor clothesline in front porch.
9.CANDLE USE: Candles are prohibited indoors, electronic ones are provided for use inside, however you may use candles on porch and deck inside a lantern/holder.
10.PARTIES: Any activity that disturbs the peace may be reported and dealt with according to Dorchester County ordinances and may result in eviction.
a.If there is a storm or hurricane, no refunds will be given unless:
b.The state or local authorities order mandatory evacuations in a "Tropical Storm/Hurricane Warning area" and/or a "mandatory evacuation order has been given for the Tropical Storm/Hurricane Warning" area of residence of a vacationing guest.
12.STORM WARNING REFUNDS: The day that the authorities order a mandatory evacuation order in a "Tropical Storm/Hurricane Warning," area, we will refund:
a.Any unused portion of rent from a guest currently registered;
b.Any unused portion of rent from a guest that is scheduled to arrive, and wants to shorten the stay, to come in after the Hurricane Warning is lifted;
c.Any advance rents collected or deposited for a reservation that is scheduled to arrive during the "Hurricane Warning" period.

We are Debi and Steve Richter, we live in Philadelphia, and own the newly renovated, Ventnor Happy Ours Cottage in Ventnor, NJ, as well as the newly updated Hoopers Island Bayside Haven, in Fishing Creek (Hoopers Island), MD. In 2016, we also added our home, "Philly Bed and Bagel" to our vacation listings. We love to travel and meet those people who share that passion.
We have always wanted to have a hospitality based business as I am a retired bridal /special occasion floral designer and coordinator. We love meeting new and old friends and hosting them in our home in Philly, and truly enjoy meeting our Guests from our Vacation Rentals as well.
We try to be as eco friendly as possible, and constantly think of ways to incorporate this in the Cottage and the Haven and have solar energy in Philly. Cleanliness and comfort are extremely important to us when we travel, and we make sure our properties are up to our strict standards in every way. The decor of the Cottage is Shabby Chic Vintage coupled with modern efficiency. We fell in love with the furnishings and style of the Cottage when we purchased it and renovated it to be true to its history.
The Haven is decorated simply but with warm color combinations and natural elements. We had a great 2013 Grand Opening Season at the Cottage, hosting wonderful and considerate guests. We look forward to a fabulous future with our new Airbnb membership as we add our Chesapeake Bay, Hoopers Island Bayside Haven and our newest Philly Bed and Bagel locations, as we incorporate suggestions and ideas that will make your stay even more comfortable. Hoopers Island Bayside Haven has 360 Degree views of both the Chesapeake Bay and the Honga River. Both waterfront and waterback, the Haven is the perfect location for a total "getaway" from it all.
Ventnor Happy Ours Cottage is 200 steps from the beach, with a wonderful fully furnished porch to people watch from, and enjoy the breeze from the outdoor ceiling fans. Minutes from AC and Ocean City, while being on a very family friendly block close to everything!
Our spacious Philly Bed and Bagel is in the Pennsport neighborhood (recently named, Philly's Best Neighborhood" by Curbed.) We offer up to THREE bedrooms, for up to SIX guests. Conveniently located to all major attractions, tourism, restaurants, etc. With separate Guest Quarters to relax in, cook a meal or watch TV as well as two Guest Only Bathrooms.
