Cabin located on 2 acre pastoral property right next to owner's glassblowing studio, Jamestown Windmill and 3 Island Farms. Views from cabin also include the majestic Newport Bridge and Narragansett Bay. Unique way to experience & enjoy island life! Its bit like fancy camping so READ all the details of the cabin to make sure it will suite your needs during your stay.
The rustic cabin is located in Idyllic Jamestown, Rhode Island, a little Island off the coast, near Newport (think Folk Festival, Jazz Fest, and Sailing) and 45 minutes from Providence. This small cabin comes with a sitting area, queen size bed, small loft with twin size bed (not suitable for very small children), mini fridge, microwave, outdoor shower & sink, and back deck with cozy couch, Adirondack chairs and fire pit. Toilet is located in neighboring glassblowing studio - a short walk away.
Guests will have access to a toilet within the glass studio (about a 30 second walk from the cabin past our gardens and woods- there is NO toilet in or directly next to the cabin itself) and free parking in the glass studio driveway. Downtown Jamestown is a small quaint village just moments away by bike or car and offers restaurants, shops, grocery store, laundromat, liquor stores, gas stations, bakery, cafes, marina, and a ferry to Newport. Also on the Island are State Parks, Beaches, and several Historic Farms. Within a short drive are Newport, Narragansett, and Wickford, offering a variety of farmers markets and art fairs throughout the season.
Interaction with guests
Guests will have access to David and Jennifer's glassblowing studio either for shopping, to watch a glassblowing demo or to take part in a fun glassblowing experience themselves. A variety of lessons are available upon request. Please make arrangements for lessons and find out availability before your arrival. (lessons are usually not available on the weekend) We will be present on the property in neighboring main house during your stay to answer questions about the surrounding area and introduce you to the workings of the cabin.
Other things to note
Please note: the cabin will be unavailable for rental from Mid-October to end-May. There is a small space heater for the cooler evenings and a fan for the warmer weather- no AC. There is room for a fourth person to sleep on the floor - guests will have to supply their own air mattress and bedding or sleeping bag for this option - there is an extra fee of $20 for the fourth guest. It should be noted that the neighboring glass studio and windmill do get visitors and we have a small child that will be playing on the main house grounds. We have been told by friends and guests how special the cabin is, that the views are amazing, and that they've had the best nights sleep there ever. The peaceful views over the fields, the sound of the tree frogs at night, the sunrises and moonscapes over the hill all provide one with a sense of "getting away from it all".

"Ahhhh…. The Love Shack! !
My one-week visit was sublime! ! !
Each evening I savored the serenity of the view eastward across the pasture as I sat on the wooden bench, cozy by the fire pit. The full moon rose from behind the majestic Newport Bridge and over the East Passage… its reflection rippling across the water… Late in the night, the moon returned to awaken me as it cast shadows on the historic windmill just steps away, on the other side of the stone wall. Pure magic!!! The dawn brought dew on the hydrangea and blueberries ripe for the picking just outside my door. The gardens, overflowing with colorful flowers and ripening vegetables beckoned in the summer sun. My visit to the glass studio, filled with artful swirling colors, glass fish and fruit…goblets and sconces … pitchers and ornaments … astounded and delighted me! So enchanting! So many shapes and colors and moods. So much joy!!! It is a truly is a magical spot… ideal for writers, photographers, thinkers, dreamers … poets…. bring your guitar!

David and his wife Jennifer own and operate Clancy designs glass studio. We are both working glass artists. We have slowly been putting the 1787 property back together for the past 20 years. Our home and gardens have been written about in numerous publications including Yankee Magazine, The Boston Globe, and Country Gardens Magazine. Most recently two articles about our home and glass studio were featured on the Apartment Therapy website.
The cabin came into being after a friend of ours needed to move his little post and beam building after he was finished with its use. We took the project on and moved the structure with a crane to its present location. The cabin is such a special place, at one time we called it home while we worked on the main house, and now it has evolved into the guest house / getaway on top of the hill. We would love to share this retreat with anyone who’s looking for a bit of peaceful paradise near the sea or creative experience in our glass studio.
We look forward to meeting you!
