The space

Located in a clean, safe, sociable (55+age) community across the street from the nicest beach in Florida!
This trailer #312 is unique and is ideal for 1-2 people who would appreciate the vintage decor and "Tommy Bahama" interior furnished with bamboo furniture and island accents collected from around Florida and the Caribbean. On a corner lot, this unit has good air flow, plenty of sunlight and a carport/patio for parking your vehicle, keeping sandy beach stuff stored and for sitting/socializing. Situated on a small lot with grass and tropical flowers...a little natural green space is always refreshing:)

Guest access

All the amenities of the park: laundry room, library, clubhouse, office manager, grounds keeper, visitor parking for guests, bayside docks and lounge area.

Interaction with guests

Friendly bunch here– renters and residents alike are happy to be here and socialize often in the high season (potluck dinners, happy hours, BBQs). Consider that many of the folks are fleeing the "cold white north" of the U.S., Canada and Europe...when your blood thins out here it makes you energetic and mobile:)

The neighborhood

Sandpiper Resort Co-op is a 55+ (renter age requirement) affordable, clean, well maintained mobile home park. Most renters are repeat customers and many of the owners are full-time residents themselves. I can personally attest to the safety and community-minded people who live and visit here. It is ideally located between the inter-coastal bay and Gulf of Mexico, close to Longboat Key (next island south) which then connects to lovely St. Armand's Circle in Sarasota. Nearby are the nicest beaches in Florida, lots of birds and wildlife on the beaches and dolphins and manatees frequently swim along the shoreline...fishing is great too!
There are plenty of places to rent kayaks, boats, jet-skis or day para-sailing outings. The world famous John Ringling Museum and Art School are also nearby in Sarasota (featuring rose gardens, Ringling's winter home and an outdoor café)...a must see!

Getting around

Walking, bicycles and/or the FREE trolley bus service gets you everywhere on the island. It is available every 15-20 minutes at designated trolley stops (one block from the Sandpiper Resort office) on Gulf Drive. You can get to all parts of Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key and even Sarasota with a bus transfer...ask the friendly driver for routes etc.

Other things to note

This 55+ park is very clean, well managed and most everyone is friendly and looks out for each other. There is no hired security here but residents feel safe and rarely do things go missing. Most folks leave beach chairs, grills and bicycles out in patios but due to transient traffic from the beach it is wise to lock up your most valued items...the only guarantee we can offer.

Loved the location and beach feel of this bright and cozy trailer. Steps from a gorgeous Oceanside beach on one side and then in the other direction you have the inter costal waters and a beautiful dock from which to enjoy the sunrises each morning. The trailer was well stocked with more than we would have imagined, so we could just relax and enjoy many Island adventures. Will definitely come back for another stay!

As my host Erik was easy to contact and attentive to my needs. He provided extras such as some quality food as well as plenty of towels. His place was well equipped for all my needs. His place was cozy, clean and only steps from the beach. There was extra equipment such as a rolling cart, a gas grill, beach chairs, and a beach umbrella. The Wifi and Cable worked seamlessly. The community was friendly with some planned activities available there. I felt very safe there. Public transportation was just steps away, so I didn't even need a car.

Our stay at the vintage trailer was wonderful. Erik had even provided us with wine, cheese, crackers and breakfast items to start our day. This was such an amazing touch that was completely unexpected. The location is key for the perfect island getaway. While the trailer is small (perfect for one or two people) the beautifully Tommy Bahama decor was perfect for the island feel.

My week in the Tommy Bahama did not disappoint! The accommodations were cozy, clean, and tastefully decorated. We wanted for nothing all week long. Pots, pans, dishes, it and it was already there! Eric even had beach chairs and a grill for our use. We are accustomed to a huge king sized bed--and the bed here obviously was not, but even that was super cozy and comfortable. Erik, our host, was correct when he said parking would be tight for a Ford F-250, but it was doable attracting the attention of a neighbor or two. We found the park's location and atmosphere to be very peaceful and quiet which was nice. But if we wanted loud and crazy, it's just a few short miles away. As a matter of fact, a world of restaurants, diners and shopping are all a short trip away from this little slice of paradise. I would definitely recommend the Tommy Bahama for couples or singles, and I would add that Erik was a very attentive and responsive host as well!

Hi, I'm your host, Erik MacPeek. I am a creative consultant-graphic designer with skills in renovation carpentry – frequently put to good use maintaining the rental listings here on AirBnB. Since we began listing our properties on the site, we have met all kinds of great people along the way!

Originally from southeastern Connecticut, I now live full-time in Tampa, Florida, with my Floridian wife, 3 kids and various pets. We love to travel and explore the world together and with our children, from the Caribbean to China! In the summer, we always migrate up to New England to spend time with family, friends and enjoy the New England coastline and great seafood! There in Stonington – on the southeastern Connecticut coastline – we all try to congregate each summer on my family's 100 year-old summer retreat called Sea Acres. It consists of three cottages on four acres, looking out over a salt-marsh cove and across Fisher's Island and Long Island Sounds. We are backed by a nature conservancy, and love the wildlife we see there every day (chipmunks, dozens of bird species, woodchucks, skunk, fox, deer and an occasional coyote).

In Florida we also have listed 2 little vintage beach trailers on the coastal barrier island of Anna Maria, with white powdery sand beaches. Those are often available summer through fall on Airbnb, but they are always booked a year in advance for the winter months when all the snowbirds come down to flee the cold weather.

As a creative person and stickler for details, I make sure my rentals are unique, comfortable and well stocked. My feeling is that people appreciate the small details, like nice dishes and linens, good hospitality and a little snack when they first arrive. These were not furnished or decorated for the rental market, but as our second homes, and they have unique touches throughout, including pieces such as my great grandmother's sea chest from Ireland, grandpa's ship's wheel and my wife's grandmother's walnut table.

We are gardeners both here and in New England, and over the years have planted more than 1,000 daffodil bulbs at the Stonington, CT property, a real sight to see in early spring.

We have very much enjoyed working with Airbnb, and use them ourselves when we travel. My recent trip to Norway included staying in a fabulous AirBnB apartment near downtown Oslo. It was in a great historic area just a 10 minute walk from downtown... fantastic.

Enjoy your stay and please sign the guest book!
