Where you’ll be

Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, India

Heini is a friendly, ancient Gaddi village, founded on farming and shepherding. The guesthouse is situated above Dharamsala and McLeodganj - the home of the Dalai Lama - and is an ideal base for trekking, excursions, and exploring the locality. The views and natural surroundings are stunning, with diverse flora and fauna, including kites, monkeys and mongooses. The village fields are farmed organically, with a yearly rotation of mustard, barley, maize and courgette, as well as potato, onion and garlic.

Welcome! I'm the proprietor of this scenic homestay guesthouse and I've lived here in Village Heini, Dharmakot, all my life. I have extensive knowledge of the Dharamshala area and have worked as a guide in the past.

I run the guesthouse with my wife, Rekha. We both love to cook and can offer you traditional Himachali home-cooked meals.

We have two sons - both are grown up now but still live with us, and they love meeting new guests. My brother and family live next door with their beautiful half-German shepherd dog, Tiger - who's bound to pay you a friendly visit if you come to stay.

We're a Gaddi family and our ancestors haled from Kugti, on the other side of the Dhauladhar range. The Gaddis used to be semi-nomadic shepherds (and a few still are).

Our reservations manager, Matthew Singh Toor, is originally from the UK but has lived with us for years (he works for Dharamshala International Film Festival).

He'll be very happy to help you with any enquiries.

During your stay

The atmosphere is welcoming - the two brothers who own the guest house live on-site with their families - but guests may also enjoy privacy as they wish, sitting out on our huge terraces.
