The space

Please note, the rates fluctuate depending on low/high season, please check the calendar for nightly rates as they vary significantly depending on the month. Lakefront cabin among the trees bordering Acadia National Park. Studio (1 single large room) with a king bed newly-paneled loft with swing-down ladder loft access, queen futon couch, and a single fold-out futon chair that lays on the floor. Separate small bathroom with shower, sink, and toilet. Gorgeous lake views, cathedral ceiling, large private deck built around towering red pines with charcoal BBQ grill and sunsets directly across the lake. Loons and other wildlife abound. The park does not allow high speed boats or jet skis on the lake, so it is very slow and pleasant. Private use of dock, canoe, kayak, and large off-shore float for swimming. WIFI (speed is 7 megabit download and 1 Meg upload). Close to Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor, located on Echo Lake. Conveniently located on Rt. 102/Main Street, about 30 steps down off the road overlooking the lake, very private with roadside parking. You can hear the road. From the deck, there are 30 steps of uneven rocks that go down to the water, not conducive for people who have a hard time navigating stairs without railings. Electricity, hot running water, normal plumbing, coffee machine, renovated kitchen with granite tops and 2-burner cook-top and toaster oven. Drinking water and water dispenser are provided. Bathroom with hot shower, flush toilet and rustic hot outdoor shower deck with warm water hook up in the woods. Beaches, bluffs, hiking, biking, carriage trails, lakes, lobsters, and coastline all within minutes. Wood Fireplace for ambiance. Modern air conditioner and heating unit wall-mounted. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS BRING YOUR OWN LINENS. This is a "bring your own" linens, sheets, towels and dish towels arrangement as there is no laundry service available (bring king bed, queen bed, and/or single futon sheets, pillow cases, towels and dish towels). Mattress covers, pillows and blankets are provided. Dishes, pots, pans, silverware and cooking utensils are provided.

Guest access

Lake, dock, off-shore float, use of canoe, use of kayak, large deck, charcoal grill, efficiency kitchen with 2 burner cook tops, toaster oven (no regular oven), hot indoor and outdoor showers, fireplace. Acadia National Park borders the property. Sand beach and swimming spots along the lake. Swimming, hiking, biking, coastline, canoeing, sailing, off-shore boating, small townships, and lobsters within minutes from the camp. Free roadside parking area (please park away from neighbor's garage). *To do the National Park activities, you will need a Park Pass (buy online or at the Bar Harbor Park Headquarters or Sea Wall Campground) to use or park at any National Park trail heads. You do not need a pass to park at the Camp.

Interaction with guests

Open communication via email before the visit and on-call if you need anything. The host is not on site (we live out of state). Please note with Peace and Love, that this is a rustic setting with a camping feel and small footprint philosophy in Acadia National Park, it is "bring your own linens". Please pack out what you pack in and leave the place as you find it ("please leave no trace"). Please clean out anything you brought and pack out any left-over garbage due to the wild location and potential for animals getting into the garbage. With Peace and Love, Peace and Love.

Other things to note

The camp is located on Mount Desert Island in Maine, accessed by a year-round bridge and road to the island. Taking a ferry is NOT required to get to the island. You can also fly to Portland, Bangor, or Bar Harbor Airports and rent cars from there.

- I will send a lease/waiver before your visit and ask that you please fill it out, sign, and return it to me.
- This is a rustic camp on a lake about 30 steps down from the road to town (you are among the trees but can still hear the road). The views are amazing and the spot very private, yet conveniently near the rest of the island fun.
- Please don't park next to the neighbors' garage, that area is for their cars. There is plenty of room away from the garage.
-You do not need a Park Pass to park at the camp, but you will need one to park or do anything in the National Park. Passes are available at the the Headquarters and Sea Wall Campground.
-BYO: There are plenty of blankets and pillows, but you will need to Bring Your Own sheets, towels, pillow cases (King in loft, Queen futon couch, and single fold-out futon / cushion chair good for a kid.) and dish towels.
-Life jackets and floats are around back in the basement.
- Running water comes from the lake, not filtered and not recommended for drinking. Drinking water is provided. You might experience air in the pipes which is normal because it is pumped up from the lake and air gets in the pipes. The lake water is beautiful for swimming, good for kitchen dishes, brushing teeth, and boiling, but not filtered or recommended for drinking. We provide drinking water jugs that are delivered. Please let me know if they get low. ***Please, please, please, minimize water DOWN THE DRAIN (into the holding tank) minimize flushes, indoor showers, and other water down the drain since the tank fills up quickly and we pay to pump it by the gallon.
-We ask that you help maintain a camping etiquette and pack-in / pack-out due to animals getting into the garbage.
-Garbage pick up from June 22 - Sept. 15 is up at the street in bags in the cans on Tuesdays and Fridays in the morning. From Sept. 15 to June 21 it is only on Thursday mornings at the street in bags in the cans.
-There is a dump near SW Harbor on Long Pond Road (off of Seal Cove Road) that takes recyclables and will take your remaining garbage at no cost. Please recycle, the dump takes all recyclables and there are donation drops for returnables. Closed Sundays.
-Please pack out anything left over from your stay, since the animals get into it and the cleaning lady does not take the garbage.
-Please leave the trash cans empty on the deck (again so the animals do not get into them)
-The outdoor shower connection has warm water, you need to let it run for a very long time to get hot via the hose. The air pressure might drop, but give it a minute as it builds back to normal flow.
- You do not need a Park Pass to use or get to the camp, however if you would like to drive the Park Loop Road in Bar Harbor or park at any of the trail heads, you will need to get a park pass for your car.
- This is a rustic camp in the woods with a "please pack-in / pack-out and leave no trace" small footprint policy.
Have a Ball!
Thanks,
The Aikmans

Great private location and still close to other attractions. So nice to have coffee on the deck, access to canoe and kayak on the lake and so close to great hiking! Outdoor shower was great too!

Bill's place is a fantastic camp in the woods! Perfect location for enjoying all that Acadia National Park has to offer. Beautiful hike right down the road (Acadia Mountain), plus the lake and everything you could want to enjoy it. The hot water outdoor shower was a treat to come back to after long days spent hiking, biking, and kayaking around.

We really enjoyed our stay! The lake is absolutely beautiful, and direct access to the lake, float, canoe and kayak really made our stay extra special. Kids loved it! Southwest Harbor is a short drive away, and we enjoyed restaurants and ice cream there more than once during our stay. The cabin is as advertised, with gorgeous views, but small and "campy" which is what we were looking for. We used the outdoor shower, which is fun but very open. We loved being on the quieter side of Acadia!

We are an extended family of siblings who love visiting this camp. We hope you enjoy it and get to experience all the wonders of Maine and Acadia National Park. It was originally owned by our parents and we love to share it with guests.
