House is a short drive to popular Mero beach and walking distance to two quiet beaches. Solar heated water in kitchen and one shower only. Free off street parking. Great for diving and snorkeling. East Carib Dive facility 10 mins walk. Price of $75 is for 1 or 2 persons. US$10 per additional person.

The space
Set in a garden on a hilltop overlooking Macoucherie Beach, Casablanca is a retreat that gets you away from it all whilst keeping you within range of Dominica's many attractions. Great place to watch the green flash as the sun sets. Within 5 mins walk are the quiet Macoucherie and Salisbury beaches, while Mero village and beach (the most popular beach on the island) is only a 5 mins drive away. On main bus route.

The house is bounded by a garden which extends to the the cliff edge above the beach. Seasonal fruit and herbs are grown in the garden. Guests can pick whatever is available. If you do not wish to cook or want a meal on arrival we can make arrangements. 24 hours notice is required to allow for shopping. The cook will clean up after the meal if required. There is a terrace to relax with a rum punch and enjoy exquisite sunsets over the Caribbean Sea. Should you overdo the rum punches no need to worry we grow the "paracetamol" plant in our garden. Yes this is the very plant used in paracetamol. A BBQ, hammock and curated bookshelf help provide the perfect environment to kick back island-style.
Full, free wi-fi is available.
The house comprises of three bedrooms: 1 king size, 1 double + single, and 1 room with 2 single beds and 2 bathrooms only one of which has hot water. There is a separate dining room and kitchen which has recently been refurbished and is stocked with local spices and seasonings PLUS complementary food for your first breakfast.
If you are a person who loves nature, prefers the natural beauty of the sea and rivers to a chlorinated pool and appreciates the simple life we think you will like Casablanca.

Where you’ll be

Salisbury, Parish of St. Joseph, Dominica

Casablanca is a 15 min walk from Salisbury Village and a 5 min drive to Mero Beach/ Village. Mero Beach is the most popular weekend spot for locals across the island, yet it maintains its small fishing village charm. Feel free to jump in on a lively domino game, practice your creole in Nathalie’s shop, hang out at Indee's Beach Bar with its affordable food and drink and internet, or drink rum on the beach to the local Bouyon rhythms. Salisbury Village to the north, one of the larger villages, is also full of its own characters, charm, and stories. Try Eddies Beach Bar on a Saturday for local vibes and local prices. Suits the younger set. Just a 10 min drive to the north of Casablanca is the Lobster Palace, Sunset Bay Club with its magical ocean views and beautiful beach. For hikes we have a lovely hike in the Macoucherie valley with beautiful river pools or take a short hike to the Syndicate Forest Waterfall nr. Dublanc. For the birdwatchers this is one of the main parrot habitats and we can arrange bird tours subject to availability of the guide. Stop on the way back at the Plantation bar and restaurant for some home cooking and great views. Want more - 30 mins away is Madibas on Purple Turtle Beach, Portsmouth for exquisite Caribbean food with a French flourish at affordable prices or try the Lounge for a reminder of home. We have beaches and rivers in close proximity. Ever taken a river bath? Something to experience. Great snorkelling at Salisbury and Macoucherie beach. Why not spend a day with a fisherman or a day with a local farmer and relax.

I am a wandering Geordie from Whitley Bay. I came from England to Dominica with my family in the summer of 1997. I am widely travelled and lived in South Africa, Kenya, USA and Australia, but remain an ardent Newcastle United fan. Love meeting fellow wanderers. We wanted to bring up our family in a more relaxed environment than England. My wife is from Barbados but spent most of her life in England. We had never heard of Dominica and had no links with the country. We were considering buying a small farm in Guadeloupe then read about Dominica in a Liat in-flight magazine. We came, we saw and we fell in love. A year later we all relocated to Dominica and have never looked back. We love its beautiful clean rivers, lush forests and the gentleness of the people. We brought up our family here and try not to take for granted the wonder of living so close to nature. We are environmentalists at heart and like adventurous people who value the simple things in life, who are open to new experiences and who realise that we are all one people in this diverse world. With our property you can have your space. We are renting the whole of the main house and if you need us we live close by.
