Charming, one bedroom, fully-equipped guest house. Recently updated with brand new appliances, furniture and furnishings, including a king size memory foam mattress. Rural location that is walkable to the Rio Grande, the bosque, numerous open spaces and nature trails as well as great coffee, an organic grocery store, restaurants and shopping. Balloon Fiesta park is a short bike or drive up the road.

The space

House and landscaping designed by award-winning architect couple (Van Dorn and Peggy Hooker) as their personal home is a mid-century modern/territorial style. It is serene and peaceful, with plenty of natural light, beautifully landscaped, and surrounded by neighborhood horses, chickens, dogs, goats, and even the free ranging neighborhood peacock. Spend your days exploring the surrounding open spaces. And each morning, enjoy your coffee on your private patio, opening directly from your bedroom. Or if it's too cold, snuggle up in front of the fireplace with Netflix, or a movie on HBO. When you're ready to rejoin the world, you're less than a half mile from two great local coffee places, Thai, Chinese, Italian and other great restaurants, 5 minutes from a movie theater, Albuquerque's largest indoor mall, and just about any kind of shopping you want to do, and wonderfully situated for the balloon fiesta, which takes place about ten minutes up the road.

Couches in the living room are not pullout couches. But casita is also stocked with a queen size air mattress, for larger parties.

Guest access

Casita is fully self-sufficient apart from washer/dryer, which you can use in the main house if you give me a little notice. Reserved parking, private entrance, private outdoor patio. Access to entire outside of property (though I have three (nice but large) dogs and they'll only be restricted from front half of yard/entrance to casita).

Interaction with guests

I like to greet guests personally if possible, and am always available to answer questions or give suggestions. I live on the same property in a completely independent building. But guest house is fully independent and private, and I'm happy to leave you to yourself unless you need anything.

Other things to note

I have a toddler, and can easily add crib/toys if you're coming with children, though they aren't in the room as set up. Pets are only approved on a case-by-case basis, so please let me know if you plan to bring yours.

My dogs are very people friendly, and not crazy barkers, but they do sometimes bark. The neighbors' horses, goats and chickens aren't always quiet either, so if you're looking for complete silence, this probably isn't the place for you.

Please no parties or visitors that aren't on the reservation without clearing in advance.

New Mexico is home to me and staying at Meyghans felt just that. Everything about our stay was perfect including the fact that we were close to every place we visited. The atmosphere of the home was inviting and clean. We did not have to ask for anything. Meyghan's place will be our first option the next time we come to town.

Wonderful guest house which was exactly as described. Meyghan was extremely communicative and her rental had many personal touches like different coffee and tea options, OTC medicines, and toiletries. The towels were extremely fluffy and the bed was super comfortable; you almost did not want to leave. The rental had was well decorated and very homey. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable stay outside of Albuquerque. Very close to many wonderful outdoor opportunities.

Pictures don't do it justice. The best Airbnb we've ever stayed in. Charming, immaculate. All the furniture is new, including an incredibly comfortable king size bed, and an unopened queen size air mattress. A number of additional thoughtful touches, including board games and cards for grown ups and kids, a fully stocked Keurig with multiple roasts, decaffeinated coffee, hot chocolate, tea and cider. A couple shelves filled with books for me and for the girls. The property is beautiful, and perfectly situated. We were able to take walks along the Rio Grande and other open spaces, and to a charming, local cafe (Flying Star). We were a five minute drive from multiple restaurants, the farmer's market, several grocery and other stores. Loved how the bedroom exited onto a cute patio, with lattice, decorated in Christmas lights. Meyghan and her adorable son Lincoln were great hosts, who were there to great us and show us around and give us some recommendations, but then let us be unless we had any questions. Though she lives on the property, we had our own parking, a separate entrance, and all the windows have curtains to provide ample privacy. If we're ever in the Albuquerque area again, would definitely stay here.

Meyghan's place was great! The place was spacious and we loved the bed, it was really comfortable. The neighborhood was safe and quiet, and there's a big yard area where our dogs could run around. Highly recommend!
