My home is a delightful 1930s semi- detached property over looking the river Ouse. The house has a large kitchen dinner and garden terrace. There are 2 double rooms with a shared bathroom and 1 double room with en-suite facilities. York really does have something for everyone, the race course is a 10 minute walk, the city centre is a pleasant 15 minute walk along the river. A lovely park and local shops which include, cafes restaurants and a wine bar are a 5 minute stroll.

Penny is very nice! She told us lots of interesting places. The house is exactly the same as the photos. The room is spacious with lovely river view. It has been a enjoyable experience walking along the rive and it only took 15mins to get to the centre.

Our stay at Penny's was really nice. We did not have the opportunity to meet Penny but Marc was an amazing host. The house is not so far from town centre and really close to the river. We stayed in the Yellow Room which offers a nice view of the river. The room is cosy and even t…

Our stay at Penny's place was very disappointing. Myself and my friend booked here as we were having a weekend away to catch up and relax and the "lazy cottage" sounded perfect for this. Unfortunately this was far from a relaxing stay. The pictures look like it will be a spacious…

Response from Penny:
It is with great regret that I must respond to this sort of review which is simply untrue. Whilst constructive criticism is always welcome this guest seems to have another agenda which is unfortunately a misuse of the trust inherent in the philosophy of the airb/b review format. Lazy hare Cottage is a 1940s semidetached house which has been recently converted to include a large kitchen dinner and patio overlooking the river Ouse. It is not a Bungalow nor does my airb/b information suggest it is either a farm house or in the country. The house has a comfortable stylish interior as several reviews will support, it is not a student house nor has it ever been, it is my home. The airb/b site clearly states that it is a shared bathroom, were other people have use of the facilities. There is an en- suite room downstairs which was taken when the guest booked. The bathroom had another couple using the facilities when they got up in the morning. The bathroom is kept extremely clean but obviously not while guests are using it. It is a small bathroom but has also recently been modernised as is in extremely good condition with a large bath and shower attachment. On the evening the guests were disturbed by the fire alarm going off my partner was grilling vegan sausages. We were not frying up anything but making some tea for my daughter who had unexpectedly returned from university. We were not outside the guest’s room but downstairs in the kitchen having invited two other guests to join us for a glass of wine. We chatted until no later than 11pm as my daughter had booked a taxi, the other guests then went to bed and my daughter left to stay with friends. Whilst I take full responsibility for the fire alarm being a disturbance for these guests, it is there for the benefit and safety of everyone and certainly not something that has happened before. It did not prevent them having a comfortable nights stay, taking up my recommendations for a nice place to dine, or breakfast in the morning. As a gesture of good will I offered another night free of charge at the guest’s convenience which was refused.

Had a very pleasant stay at the Lazy Hare Cottage. Penny and Marc are very friendly hosts and the house is very cosy (the bed in the yellow bedroom is amazingly comfortable!). Highly recommend it!

I am an artist and work in the centre of York in a shared studio. I have lived here and brought up my 3 children so know the area well and can suggest some wonderful days out. Because of my work, I am also very up to date with what is happening in and around the very vibrant …
