Located on a very isolated part of The Lost Coast about 40 minutes from Redway, CA. Walking distance from Cape Mendocino Lighthouse, Seal Rock, Abalone Point, Little Black Sands Beach, Delgada Pizza and Bakery, The Fish Tank coffee shop, etc. Within 5 miles of the Lost Coast trail head, Black Sands Beach and King Range National Conservation. Nearby shuttle available for Lost Coast hikers.

Guest access

The kitchen is available to use at anytime. Guests will have their own cabinet space. We have provided tea, coffee, and popcorn for our guests to welcome themselves to. Cooking is encouraged. Please make sure to clean up after.

**Please note: We do not have a designated dining area or table. Our apartment layout is a bit different, so we typically dine in the living room. You are welcome to eat in the living room, kitchen, or your room. We have a small T.V. tray style table available for wherever you choose to eat.

The living room is where we spend most of our time and we would like to keep it to ourselves when we are home during our work week. These standards aren't strict, especially on our nights off (Wednesday and Thursday). We love to get to know our guests and often use the living room as a communal area. Just please use your judgment when occupying that space.

If we are gone from the house, the living room is up for grabs. Also, there is a small back porch that guests are welcome to at anytime.

Interaction with guests

During our work week, we like to keep the nights quiet with popcorn and a movie, or a card game.

BUT, on our evening's off, we like to drink a couple beers, listen to music, and goof off. Wednesday nights and Thursday nights are the best times to catch us.

Other things to note

The check-in time can be flexible. One of us works near our home, so if needed, we could let you in during our shift if business allowed us to do so.

There is a 99% chance that you won't have cell phone reception. So, TAKE A SCREENSHOT of your directions and DO RESEARCH about where you are traveling!! Shelter Cove Road is a beautiful drive, but can be an intimidating for some people (the road is paved but has many twists, turns, and inclines). We suggest driving during the day to really grasp the beauty of the drive and to better see where you are going.

We have provided a phone specifically available for our guests that will be left in the room if phone calls need to be made or text messages need to be sent.

If you are staying with us on our days off, we would like to give you a heads up that we like to have music and laughs in the evening. We are by no means extremely loud and obnoxious, but we do like to enjoy our time off as we both work a lot during the week. :-)

Amanda and Dan are very hospitable and relaxed hosts. They had prepared all the reasonable and available amenities that one could ask for. They really try to make one feel welcome. Shelter Cove is worth the visit but one must be aware that it's a challenging drive by day to get there off HWY 101. So time your drive so you don't attempt the last hour and a half drive by night. But when you get to the Cove be prepared for scenic views that will overwhelm your senses! Your room and bath at Amanda's are like staying at your own home enjoy!

Response from Amanda:
Hi Jonas! I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay. :-( It does state on our Airbnb listing that it is an air mattress. We try to accommodate in other areas, which is factored in our price, such as providing a private guest cell phone (most of our guests don't have cellular reception), WiFi (the only WiFi offered in Shelter Cove is to be paid per gig used monthly which is very expensive when we allow guests to have unlimited access), free laundry, and the location in itself, which is very expensive to live in. Nearly all lodging (other than camping) in Shelter Cove is double (or more) the price that was paid out. I have read all of your other feedback comments and will absolutely be sure to improve for future guests, as we are still very new to Airbnb. I know that you two were in and out of Shelter Cove pretty quickly as just a stopping point to rest, but, hopefully you can visit Shelter Cove again and have the time to explore our off the grid paradise!

This is as bare bones of a place as you are likely to ever find! A small room on an economy air mattress covered by a single sheet (think noise and sweat) with no chair in the room. The apartment is a rather large 3 rooms, however the master bedroom is used as an office, so the hosts sleep in the living room, making the large kitchen the only real communal area. However, this little corner of the world is worth seeing. And Amanda and Dan are a young, intelligent and industrious couple that are worth meeting! And I would imagine that by the time you read this the will have more of the creature comforts sorted out, in which case we would return.

Great spot in the middle of the Lost Coast, and well worth the drive to get there. Amanda and Dan were super friendly and really helpful, and the room was as described.
