Location

Portuairk, Scotland, United Kingdom

MoDhachaidh is situated in the quiet village of Portuairk, 4 miles from Kilchoan. The scenery here is simply stunning on both sunny and stormy days. There are great rock pools for little explorers and lovely sandy beaches on the doorstep. Red deer, otters, seals, basking sharks, dolphins, Pine Martins and Sea eagles can all be spotted, not forgetting the friendly local sheep.

The infamous Sanna bay can be seen from the living room window and is a 30 minute walk along a rocky path or a 15 minute drive for the less adventurous. The Ardnamurchan Lighthouse is just over the hill behind the house and can be accessed via a path taking aproximately 40 minutes or again a 15 minute drive. Open 1st Apr to 31st Oct, daily tours are available and light lunch and refreshments can be bought at the cafe and gift shop. Even out of season a visit to the most westerly point of the brittish mainland is a must, to take in the views of the ragged cliff tops, crashing waves and the small Isles across the water.

In Kilchoan you will find The Ferry Stores, selling day to day essentials and and a post office, where cash can be withdrawn. (Closed sunday). There are 2 cafes, a playpark and an information centre. The kilchoan Inn is a family friendly bar and restaurant, serving food throughout the day. Sanna Spice deliver Indian cuisine to your door Wednesday to Sunday, and also offer a children's menu.

The Nadurra Visitor Centre in Glenborrodale is a 30 minute drive and is a perfect family afternoon activity, with a free exhibition, well stocked gift shop, delicious food and a warm welcome. The newly built Ardnamurchan Distillery is a 2 minute walk from the centre and offers tours and tasting sessions throughout the day.

Ferries leave daily from Kilchoan to Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. A 30 minute journey where you can while away the time spotting the wildlife from the upper decks. A varied selection of shops and restaurants along the sea front make having a car not essential. There are many wildlife tours available, both on land and Sea. A trip to see the puffins on Staffa is highly recommended.
